steering wheel not adjusting!
It all started last week, when I tried to adjust the steering wheel. In the beginning, it would move up or down slowly. I would have to push it up/down about 200 times until it went up to the position I wanted. I was actually ok with this, since it still worked. Yesterday, the steering wheel seemed low again. So I push the lever upward, and it goes down! :yikes: So I kept pushing, hoping it would go up, but no luck.. Now, it won't go up or down, its stuck in the lowest position and my legroom is extremely tight.
My drivers side seats aren't adjusting either, same problem? I brought it to my mechanic, he thinks its the motor thats gone bad but hes not sure. I'm thinking about bringing it to the stealership now. :stickpoke any advice? Thanks in advance! |
anyone?

The memory module under the driver's seat controls the seat adjustment, and the steering wheel adjustment. If both systems have gone out at the same time, that is the most likely culprit. It is the box under the driver's seat that has the seat adjustment buttons on it. Check realoem.com for the part number for your specific year and model. You can check the wiring harness to make sure nothing is loose, but it is more likely to be the module itself IMO.

thanks! I will be sure to take a look at it later. I was doing a search for the part on realoem.com, but can't seem to find it..

It depends on whether you have regular seats, sport seats, or comfort seats. The modules have different part numbers for each. Now it gets interesting. Two of those part numbers are marked "ended" on realoem, suggesting that they are no longer available. The comfort seat module is shown as available, it would be around $400. I have attached a clip of the parts book drawing, it is item #1 (only for the comfort seats). Suggest you talk to your dealer and see what the story is on any change-up part numbers for your specific vehicle. Realoem could just be out of date.
Here is a thread where a member took some pictures of changing out his module. It isn't hard to do, and is a fairly common failure. http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...wont-work.html Good luck. Jeff |

I don't know if this is relevant or not since I have an E70, but after they did the last software update my wheel quit moving in when I shut the X off. It goes up but not in. It doesnt really bother me though because I figure it's just less wear and tear on the motor.

A problem with online catalogues is we don't know which is the latest part number, which one superceded which. |
Askhao,
Where you able to get and change this part? how did it go? Having the same issues and this morning both my power seat and steering wheel won't move at all. |
sorry.. i just saw your post MONAX. I did not change it yet, because I have been really busy lately. I've just been driving with the steering wheel in a lower position than normal, and I've actually gotten used to it. I tried to change it today, and I'm having some problems taking it out. I'm going to try again tomorrow since it started raining. I'll try to take some pics and post a write up!
