Selling my 06 4.8IS

Anyone have any input as to helping me with my decision. I am considering selling my 06 because I am reaching 95K miles. I dont like the E70 though......

Any thoughts would be welcomed.

What are your reasons? Hard for us to decide really, its up to you and your wallet and how you feel.

ekimv65 02-10-2011 06:02 PM

I love my X5, I have had no problems whatsoever that I have not been able to solve on my own. I have cash to buy what I want, but do not like the E70, dont care for the Porsche, Audi, Acura, nor, the MB. I love my 5, but would like to be able to play my MP 3 music and some of the technology of newer vehicles.

I cant seem to find the performance nor the sexiness of my X. I can tell you I hate the snow tires, they make a hell of a lot of noise. I love my factory 20's with Vred's but cant use them in the snow.

I dont know what to do.... I always have people say how beautiful my X is, I have people offer to buy it. But what do you replace it with that can compare...?

Nik 02-10-2011 06:17 PM

You love your X so much, just leave it. If you have enough cash just get something else as well.

Naz24 02-10-2011 06:55 PM

mileage is just a number. if you love your X5 why sell it? You know the mechanical condition of it now, youre used to it. i mean unless your bored of it, i see no reason to sell.

the 4.8is is truly an amazing machine, and honeslty i dont think these newer cars are made to the quality that the 4.8is was.

btw, didnt you JUST buy it?

dpgx5 02-10-2011 07:12 PM

To me the X5 started this shi*t, its the benchmark to what SUV/SAV are today... I dont think anything can compare... only that technology improves but quality in materials doesnt.. everything now is cheaaappp!

Get the X3 m edition with 300 horses. almost same size as e53 and it will handle way better than the e70. get a dinan upgrade for another 40hp and you will be flying past e53 4.8's

:iagree:A"GREED"! You know you'll regret it. Plus whenever you start doubting yourself, come back here for more support lol

An idea i've toyed with: V10 from M5 retro'd into my 4.6iS, stroked by Dinan. Love the new XMonsters but if i can customize their performance or better, into the shell of an E53 iS that would be ideal (in my world).

Happy hunting :driver:

G-Power!!!! or the new TT V8 + tune.

Sorry for the highjack :(

Sad to see another let go, but good luck with the sale (if you go that route). But like they say, if you love it, keep it.

Let's face it, your 4.8is is yesterday's news. An E53 has-been that was cobbled together from an E39 parts bin. 'Premium' sound that rivals only a 1985 boom box and a Nav that rivals Atari 2600. Your 'Alpina tuned' N62 is gasping for air as a soccer mom in a N55 powered X3 shows you LED taillights. An E70 with magnetic shocks and non-staggered 18" wheels rails the corners past you while your highly suspect air suspension on Flintstone-style 20" steamroller tires tries to hang on. And forget about the X5M; it is in the next zip code before your ZF finds third gear.

But in my opinion, the N62 powered 4.8is remains, and always will remain, one of the best examples of an X5 ever created. Classic lines, great sounds, all the options, and a platform where most if all the issues are known and can be solved, and even has a dipstick to check the oil.

I'm guessing you own the car at this point. Let's assume that you put $4K a year in repairs every year. That's $333 a month. I think a Toyota highlander lease is more than that. I can't think of a more interesting choice unless you pay the 70k or more for a X5 N63 turbo or the N55 X3. But neither seem as special as the 4.8is.

Good luck.

I like the way you explain ...

:iagree:

or N55 BMW Performance | N55 Stage 1 | N55 Juice Box | BMW Performance Chip | BMW 135 Performance

Nik 02-11-2011 10:43 AM

I personally don't like X3s as much.

X5rolls 02-11-2011 11:19 AM

There are some interesting options above. I have wondered what I would do when my X5 gets high mileage (whatever that turns out to be in terms of reliability/integrity/significantly above average maintenance costs when very well maintained).

I saw last year someone found a ultra low mileage 06 for sale. That, sounded like an interesting option.

If there was one available in the color you like, would that be viable?

///Bruce 02-11-2011 12:02 PM

You could always find another like yours with low mileage...

What is significant about it reaching 95K miles? Knowing this would help us give you advice.

I have had very few service problems whatsoever! I am concerned that it will begin to have service problems.... I dont know for sure, just thinking that would be logical.... The way I service the car, that is not a given....

I am totally confused to your whole line of thought??? Are you throwing the 06 under the bus, or what?

1stE53 02-13-2011 05:50 AM

Keep it till the transmission goes, then look for another X5. Could give you many many more years of happiness.

You're not the only confused one.
