You make it sound easy so as soon as it's warm enough to tackle the project, I'm see how easy it really is. Thanks

There is a procedure to take the slack out of the mechanism. I posted it in the past, so do a search and you'll probably find it. I'd search myself, but staring at your avatar has made me forget how to search. Anyway, it might help somewhat, give it a try.

Folding mirror motor

Now my mirror works like a champ.

I have the same issue with left side a bit loose and the right side stopped moving but I can hear motor turning. I pulled mine apart and found the motor also loose when you take off the housing, but it looks like the housing should keep in in place tight enough but before trying the epoxy fix it looks like the gears are a bit worn in the housing, does anyone know if the motor or motor housing parts are available or do you have to buy the whole mirror assembly? There is a repair kit mentioned in RealOEM wesite (LEFT MEMORY DRIVE REPAIR KIT 1 67138381997 $188.25
04 RIGHT MEMORY DRIVE REPAIR KIT 1 67138381998 $188.25) but it does not look like the motor or housing.

Anyone know if parts are available? If not what type of epoxy should I use?

If you can hear the motor running when you hit the button, then I don't think you will need to replace the motor. If you do need to replace it, I would un-solder it and take it to a hobby store. They sell the same little electric motors for around $5.

The problem with mine was that the motor housing lost two little tabs on the bottom that hold the motor in place (it is just pot metal and they sheared off). I used JB Weld (epoxy) to glue the motor back down to the housing. There isn't much surface area to glue, so you have to use something strong.

Thanks xxxxxman,
I will give it a go. My concern was that the gears around of the bottom of the part that goes over the motor looks a little worn, does not look like you can turn it and put in on in another spot as it has three unequal slots for the mirror assembly to fit on top. Not even 100% sure I know where the original spot of that part goes back on as I didn't mark it (my bad). May be in for some frustrating trial and error later.

I don't think we have JB weld in Australia, but will see what I can find. Thanks for your post - has been most helpful.

I wonder if it is people forcing the power mirrors open and shut that snaps the post of these little motors?

Great post. I took mine apart and found the same thing you described. I took some detailed pics if anyone is interested in it.

I also broke my mirror caps all to hell when taking them off. Woops.

And one after the JB Weld:

Wow, you used a lot more epoxy around the base than I did. Did it fit back together when you reassembled it?

kmagnuss 04-20-2011 09:31 PM

Dunno... letting it dry now. :)

kmagnuss 04-20-2011 10:05 PM

Just put it back... all good in the hood.
