I think it's pointless to discuss with the BMW Technician,it's true that e53's got a whole bunch of different clusters.
Also it's true that OP should've gotten the home work done before spending on the M5 cluster.

Not true. I put a high cluster in my 2001 from a 4.8. everything was able to be coded. the only thing that doesnt work is the oil temp, which used to be a gas mileage on my old cluster. Unless the adapter you are talking about solves that issue than you are usually good to go with swapping x5 clusters

Thanks guys for all the replies and the bashings...

When I check option 2 to see all the lights on in the cluster, I can clearly see the "SD 12345" indicator... when I start the engine it disappears...

I would like to think that it could indeed be recoded. (I dont really care about the MPG indicator as it seems that the oil reading is correct...)

To correct my first post, speedometer reading is fine just like the RPM“s, only the fuel indicator is off by +/- 1/4

Anyone else thinks it can be recoded? BTW, it looks quite nice.

Thanks!

(I actually did my homework and this is part of what I found:)

2000 M5 instrument cluster installation in X5 2002

Hi all

I've got a 2002 BMW X5 4.4 which has the typical pixel problem in the instrument cluster. I bought a 2000 M5 cluster from ebay and after installartion everything works but the language is stuck in Spanish? Is there anyway to set this back to English?

How does one tell the difference between high and low clusters?

Is there a date cut-off ?

thanks

It's all on the How To X5 Tips&tips page in the section of X5's options.
