1st X5 Saying hello and some newbie questions
Hey everybody, just picked up a 2002 X5 4.6is Imola Red 75K miles as a valentines day gift for the wifey few weeks back. She absolutely loves but funny thing is its quickly turning out to be my baby LOL... Great drive, great handling and man the take off is freaking amazing... I was orignally looking for a 2004-2006 Imola Red but very hard to find that color and under 25K. We just had our first child so I wanted to stay under budget. I've been a long time Lexus guy with a GS400, RX300 and currently '07 GS350 AWD but when it came to a SAV for the wifey it had to be the BMW X5, love this machine...
Some quick questions 1) Any recommended or links of maintance I should follow? Common issues I should proactivly fix prior to 100K? 2) Upgrade lights, I saw Angel Eyes on ebay as upgrade kit, any reviews of the unit? Only issue I just had was coolant leak which actually lead to me xoutpost in the first place and have found a great amount of details in regards to valley pan gasket issue, so Thanks guys... Taking the car back to dealership as its covered under 30 day warranty... |

I am sorry, I cannot answer your questions- I just wanted to say BEAUTIFUL color choice. My husband just bought me an X5 (black on Black) also- and, it is quickly becoming his baby too!! I love that color!

Thanks dude.. No extended warranty, still debating if its worth 2K for a 3rd party warranty from Luberico, I've heard some horror stories of them not covering things. Not sure if BMW will sell me an extended warr on a 2002. As for History, I some details but not all. I will get it inspected from the independant BMW auth mechanic.

Welcome to the forum. That is an awesome ride. I am sure you will be happy with your ultimate driving machine. As for things to look out for, you all ready know about the valley pan so thats good, CV boots get eaten up pretty quickly, anywhere between 30 to 50 K miles, if you have the original BMW pads, make sure to buy a car wash. I mean a whole car wash unit for your house bc with the amount of dust they throw, the minute you clean them and the first stop you make right before you pull out, the rims are back to black. I mean every car is different but usually those are common things. You can always come here to find out more detailed questions.

Oh and I forgot, extended warranty items are tricky. Its a crap shoot. Sometimes they will cover it, some times they don't. if you do a search, some people have said like a valley pan would be covered when the same warranty coverage, same part isn't covered for another person. Go figure.

Great ride! Enjoy to the fullest.
I would say Valve cover gaskets, thermostat, water pump as for 100k. |
don't forget about the tranny.
