Car Got Dented in Parking lot, what are my options here?

to top off my horrible two weeks, i came out to my car today to dents all over. Three in total. Two behind my "dent guard" and one under my mirror. what i think happened is that ugly malibu next to me shoveled himself in or out of the spot and dented me during the process. Either way, i called the police, had a report run (yes i know it'll be on my carfax, whatever).. They really didnt do much for me except say that i could call the number they gave me tomorrow.

here are pictures. what should i do? be over it and just get my car fixed by my paintless dent remover and take the $$ hit?

Pictures on next post

Paintless dent removal. It may not be feasible if the dents are on the edge of the door frame, but I think by the looks of it you'll be alright.

just sucks that i have to pay for it, i know it was that guy in the malibu. is there a way to get him to pay?

dpgx5 03-07-2011 07:33 PM

yeah, tell him that you have a witness and that someone saw him.. see how he reacts! thats BS though man, i feel your pain... i would wanna smash his face :)

TwinTurboGTR 03-07-2011 07:34 PM

Yea I concur. You would be surprised as to how much dent removal can help out. Hell I never thought fixing curb rash by those people with a trailer could do a good job, but I was shocked.

TwinTurboGTR 03-07-2011 07:38 PM

So you wanna make him pay? Wish a busted valley pan gasket upon his malibu. Oh wait, thats only our X's haha. But its going to be hard to make him to physically get him to shell out some dough. If you ask me, I'd take a pushpin and go near the bead of the tire, near the rim. Puncture all four. Watch him go crazy filling em up every few days or so. Best part, cant plug it, can't patch it. opps, guess someone has to get new shoessssssssssss. And I see you're from Jersey, Yeah, i'd do it Jersey style! Just my .02

Well the way the snow is packed in there.... could it have been from snow removal? (snow shovel or snow blower?) What does the chevy look like? And dents on it from when it hit yours?

he has so many dents that i couldnt realize which one went where...

I think it was from a shovel from the guy in the malibu, he must have been really rough when shoveling himself out.. what a prick

i just left a note on his car..

Foose 03-07-2011 10:41 PM

Anyone know of a good dent remover in new york? What's the going rate for a dime sized dent removal in the door?

Quicksilver 03-07-2011 10:45 PM

Dent wizard? Google it.

UPDATE!

The note I left worked. He called me today and admitted to backing into my car. His insurance will take care of it. Now I need to get an estimate in Ithaca to get fixed in nj.

It'll prob be paintless dent removal--but we will see..

Any recommendations?

Why couldn't he have messed up my bumper!? I need a reason to get the 4.8is body kit.

CTSportX5 03-08-2011 11:54 AM

Wow, thats great he owned up to it. Consider yourself lucky.

o. l. t. 03-08-2011 12:54 PM

Good to hear. Sounds like someone you might want to befriend and have a glass of something with.

TwinTurboGTR 03-08-2011 12:57 PM

Well that is great! I figured he was going to see the note and just laugh and say, "Ehh f$&^ it!" But that is good he admitted it. But since he did cause damage and his sin needs to be repented, I'd say give his a little love tap, transfer some paint and as the adjuster comes around, his review will note the need for a new bumper and then you can work with the body shop to just pay the difference. haha :nanana:

Anyways as for body shop, I don't know where in NJ you are from but my guy at Wreck-O-mend body in Freehold is great. Owner is Peter.

:iagree:

Looks like there is still a tiny shred of hope for humanity after all. I would have totally bet against him owning up to it, so you definitely lucked out on this one.

dpgx5 03-08-2011 02:24 PM

Glad to hear as well... recommend that you want it fixed how it was, whatever is needed back to original, if it means painting then we paint, you got him by the balls so dont back down. Goodluck

Naz24 03-08-2011 02:29 PM

Just got an estimate from a body shop in the ithaca area (i doubt i'll use them). The total comes out to about $980.

I hate to have to get my car painted. But if i do, its going to Matt Casiano at C&D in hackensack...

what would you guys do? just take the insurance payout and then go try paintless?

o. l. t. 03-08-2011 02:37 PM

Don't buck the system, Karma is being nice today. Get it fixed as however it needs on insurance's dime.

papasmurf 03-08-2011 09:31 PM

Dent Wizard in Elmwood Park will get that out, no problem. Bruno is the man.

Edit: BTW, I noticed you mentioned C&D. Bruno is one of the few, if not the only dent guy that C&D uses.

You know Bruno too?! He's the best, just talked to him today. Heard the usual "Whatsup cuz" haha

Lol, yeah man. I actually gotta stop by this weekend and have him pull a few on mine. I finally figured out why I have a wave in my front fender, and I'm 99% sure it's from similar circumstances.

Was recently recommended to Bruno...and i see he's been mentioned on a couple forums for having pride in his work. Will make time with him soon as well...damn nyc taxi's pulling too close to parked cars to let (drunk?) passengers in/out!

Glad to read that owner of the malibu owned up.

sprocket1200 03-09-2011 11:27 AM

just take the money and don't get it fixed. it really isn't that bad. besides, the next guy that dings you may not own up to it, so sooner or later you may need to fix that spot anyway...

Brit6 03-09-2011 11:31 AM

Ok first i have to say sorry for your loss.

More importantly, why on earth would you park so close to any other car???

I didn't park next to him... He parked next to me. Here's a picture of my car the night before it happened.

I ALWAYS park far away from people, especially at school. Even when I park out of the way, somehow the idiots find their way near me.

Do you take pictures of your X every time you park? Looks like someone has a major OCD with their X:stickpoke

BTW... Your man Bruno came through for me. I will upload pictures of the before and after of the dent he took out. I never thought it was possible, but he has a gift!

Hahah I am very meticulous. It was lucky that I took a pic that night, only cuz it was covered in snow.

I'm glad to hear that Bruno worked out! Yes, bring on the pictures

Naz24 03-11-2011 03:50 PM

quick question guys:

BMW Morristown gave me a free detail recently. I had an appointment for next friday..do you think it would be a bad idea to have my car detailed before the insurance adjuster comes to look at it?

Cisc0 03-11-2011 04:17 PM

Just postpone it till the insurance adjuster sees the vehicle and you decide on what type of repair your going to do (PDR vs Paint repair). Plus, you would want the detail after the vehicle is fixed.
