The only way it can "lie" is for the variables to be incorrect. In otherwords, the input signal from the O2 sensors, MAF, and other sensors are not working correctly.

It's a computer and algorithms. It is incapable of lying.

Okay going to look into new o2 sensors. Is that a diy?

My 4.4 has about 106K miles....totally stock engine (original plugs, O2 sensors, etc) and I'm seeing an average of 16pmg in heavy traffic. And I have a lead foot. My MPG only drops below that if I'm in hilly terrain or really bad winter weather.

I had a similar issue. I normally get about 12-14 city, and 19-21 on the highway. Ive gotten 22 on the highway if I go 70mph with cruise control on.

A few trips back, heading to Vermont, I was getting under 18mpg with cruise control on. I have made this drive many times, and I usually get 20+. I even reset the counter, thinking it might be off or whatever.

The Fix: I got half way, stopped for gas, turned the car off, and back on, and started getting 20+. Not sure what it was.

My 3.0i does 15.5 round town and 17.5 when I hang the caravan on .? .
By the way an English Gallon of petrol ,4.5 litres, is $10.38 in england now. (£1.40 a ltr.)

so i think what was said before is correct if my avarge speed is only around 13 dont know how thats possible but w.e lol then i can expect more than that in gas milage 10 would be fair if im going only 13 miles an hour... no am i going 13 miles an hour hell no lmao:nanana:

2001 X5 4.4, average for me is 15 city, 18 hwy. The kind of driving you do can lead to wet tail.....water build up in the cat converter.... Just maybe that might be a factor. Just an idea....might be stupid......I don't know for sure is what I am saying!

Boston X5 4.4 03-20-2011 12:31 PM

I once let my car sit for 20 min with the engine running and got 0mpg :yikes:

j/k...if you think there may be a problem hop on the highway and see what you are getting at a steady 60 or so for some time - only way to normalize it Vs. the opins from others as to what is 'average for city driving'.

BTW, just got back from SOBE.....lotta fun as always but the liver still hurts from excess libations at the Fontainebleau/Delano/W/Shore club

That could definitely be it. Try a tank without warming up more than 15-30 sec.
