Right I remember that post. As for design, M62 Vs N62 nearly the same? Only reason I ask is because I was thinking about a 4.8is or Cayenne S. If I get the 4.8is; since I've got a 4.4, I wanted to know if it can still be worked on "easily".

Hmmm how do I re-word it? Say I wanted to find out a coolant leaking, oil leaking, etc on my 4.8is, would the engines be similar enough that I could do the work easily such as on my 4.4?

looks like my leak is from the radiator. Still replacing everything while it's apart.

But how in the heck do you remove the fan?? Can't seem to break it free - pulley keeps turning and not sure how to lock it. Manual mentions some special BMW tool that of course I don't have...

Yeah you could spend the money for the special tool, but I think if you go to autozone, pep boys, advanced auto, you can rent the tool from them. It should come with the fan removal tool which locks into two of the 8 bolt heads and a 32mm open end wrench or big cresent wrench will do it. Thread pattern is clockwise to loosen the bolt while the tool holding on the to fan clutch is going in the opposite direction. I don't know how tight is on there, but mine was gorilla tight. So I put the tool on the clutch, extended the handle so it touched the floor and then used the weight of the car and the floor to counter the force.

I got it off with one of these thingys. 2 trips to Sears. First time to get a 32mm wrench - didn't happen to have one that big!
