X5 Dead

All,

My x5 just died, all electronics are dead no light nothing, I had to open the door with the key, now I hope this is a dead battery and I know its in the trunk, can someone tell me how I can open the trunk for a locked car, it seems strange that I cannot even open the other doors with the lever from the inside, I can only open the drivers door.
I will be looking up the manual now and if nothing works will either call in a tow or try to jump start it, please let me know if there is a way I can just replace the battery myself.

Thanks for your help

To get to the battery..

There is a little triangle in the trunk on the right side near by the tailgate light pop it out and pull forward that will release the rear hatch.,then try to to lift up the rear floor seen there is no power for you to push/open the lower hatch.

Thank you mrbmwx5 I will try that in the morning.

Which battery would you suggest for the X , I was thinking about picking one from auto zone or should i just go the BMW parts center and pick one up from there, any reason why a battery from auto zone would not be preferred .

The AZ one is fine. Make sure it is the right model, and hope they don't 'hot shot' when you pick it up & it has near full charge at purchase.
Lots of DIY threads here, with pics. 30 min job, if it's not pouring rain or snowing. GL, mD

Pop the bonnet (or "hood" I guess) and connect a charger or another battery to the jump start terminals. Assuming the problem is a flat battery this should give you enough power to unlock the doors etc.

Thanks all for your help, I was able to replace the battery and so far no issues, I saw the 4x4 triangle light on but moved the steering from left click to right and it went away, the toughest part was getting the bottom part of the trunk open (not sure what's it called).
Took me an hour to get the job done.
Awesome site this is :)

You're welcome.

Update:

From the last time I posted, the replaced duralast battery died in 4 days, I did recharge it a few times and took some of the fuses out but it did'nt help, ended up taking it to the stealer, they kept it for a few days and ran draw tests and found the culprit (i was able to return the autozone battery since after a few recharges it would not recharge anymore and replaced it with agm battery), it's been a week so far and no issues yet.
However i am concerned about the AGM battery and need some guidance...Does the charging system need any sort of change to make sure it understands this is an AGM and does not overcharge it or is it smart enough to tell the difference and make changes accordingly.
Please help.
