new tranny installed
hi everyone it has been some time since i posted. just an update from my previous threads about the famous or infamous tranny bucking upon the 2nd to 1st downshift...about 3 weeks ago brought the x in for contiuation of the same problem and bmw reprogrammed the tranny once again. this time they could not clear a fault code and had to be guided by bmw tech center to clear the code. got the car back and although it was better it still had the problem when coming to a slow gradual stop when the tranny shifted from 2nd to 1st as usual. brought the car back last week and i requested the service manager and explained to him that this cannot continue aand that this is going to be the fouth time for the same problem and obviously reprogramming is not working and at this point i am requesting a new tranny. i told him that i had been in contact with bmw na and the authorization to replace the tranny must come from the field rep. he told me that their is only one rep for long island and he doughts that he would be interested in a 2005. i told him that the vehicle is still under cpo and bmw has a responsibilty to correct the problem. he told me that they would check the car over and if the problem existed he would be my advocate to try and get a new tranny authorized. i apologized for being a little angry but that he should understand my frustration. we left on good terms and i would be advised of the outcome. on tuesday i was called by my service advisor and informed that bmw had authorized the tranny exchange and it was coming from germany. the sa called yesterday informing me that the x is ready. will go get her today and hopefully they did a good job and problem resolved. the work was done at bayside bmw which is where i purchased the x. 2005 4.4 with 29500 miles. lets hope for the best. sorry for long post rob.

thanks for the info killcrap..i thought it sounded a little weird that a tranny had to come from germany...why do they have to lie,,but i did get the x back in a timely manner and i did have a loaner from the dealer...today i found a few issues with the x...the rear bumper has like a flap underneath that sits between the 2 mufflers that looks like it should slide under a heat shield...the tech just left it hanging in the breeze....then coming to work this morning it ran fine then all of a sudden the ses light came on and the car starting hesitating...i stopped shut it off and re-started and it cleared and ran ok the rest of the way to work...and lastly there is a gray wire that is wrapped around the center crossbeam that then is snaked across toward the left side of the car. it is clipped to the exhaust heat shield and runs up the left side but as it is coming arcoss it is dangerously close to the exhaust pipe...i dont think it was that way before the change..one thing though is that the tranny is smoother...do you think they really changed the tranny qm...but i have to bring it bsck again to fix these issues...why do they do this i would be embarassed to give a customer back a vehicle without it being 100 %...thanks rob..ps to killcrap what i wrote earlier is exactly what i was told by the service manager that is why i posted i just wanted an experienced opinion...trust me do you think i like being inconvienced by bringing my car back to the dealer over and over. i just want a car that runs and i want to move on. i dont get any pleasure from this...
