E53 iPod Integration Question

Hey everyone, I have a question that may be super dumb to some of you but whatev. When I bought my 04 X5 a few weeks ago it came with some kind of iPod Integration Kit wired into the front console. I don't have any idea what brand it is or anything like that.

Well my problem is, I can't seem to get my iPhone 4 to work with it (to play music). I don't know if my iPhone is just too new and therefore just not compatible with this iPod kit or what. Below I attached a photo of what my iPhone says when it's plugged in with the cord.

Is there something I need to do to make the phone play thru the car or will this just not work? Any ideas???

iPhone 4 is too new for the system.

If I bought this and swapped it with the one I have now, would that be all I need??

Yes, that would be the one. :)

no luck accessing the iPod connection when cycling through "modes" on the stereo? should take you through (radio) --> (trunk CD changer) --> (in-dash single CD). iPod connection might be a fourth choice or have replaced the trunk CD changer.

you're getting the error message on your phone because the old iPod connection kit won't charge a USB device. a couple years ago, Apple switched standards from FireWire to USB charging, meaning older accessories can't send power to newer iOS devices. compatibility in terms of the ability to pass audio through shouldn't have been affected, but depends on the accessory. if you can cycle through "modes" and get the audio to pass through, all you would need is one of these to enable charging.

No, I've already tried that. That was my first thought but unfortunately the only two choices were the radio and cd player. But thanks!!!

Tom, was there a DIY and/or instructions for the X5, for the installation process? I've searched this site but there are just way to many search results to go thru for DICE stuff.

Installation would be very similar to these instructions since the connection points are the same:

Let me know if you have any further questions.
