x5 stalling problem persists..

So, this stalling problem persists after so many fixes and replacements. I have a nearly new intake, new transmission, new (ebay) MAF as well..

My X5 (2001, 4.4) when slowed down (at a stop sign for example) would stall and even die sometimes (not all the time but frequently). She has no other performance problems. No error codes. This is a very annoying! problem that I could not find the reason for.

What do you guys think? Would this have something to do with fuel supply system?

there is something called Idle control .. that can be dirty and might need cleaning. not sure about the name though. What I am sure is that it can be cleaned.

Cam position sensors? Get a gt1 diagnostic.

It's either the intake or exhaust cam sensor for VANOS system. I screwed around with all kinds of attempts before I figured it out. They are not too hard to put in as they are on top of Valve cover. About $100 or so each.

no such device is installed on any x5 v8 engine.

consider having the fault memory read out. i know you said no error codes, did you check the EGS fault memory for a stuck torque converter lockup?

turquise1 04-02-2011 11:18 PM

I believe the torque converter was changed during the transmission rebuild process (no errors were mentioned by my mechanic). I will take a look at the mentioned sensors and let you guys know..

Btw, during 5-6 hrs of city driving today, my X5 did not repeat the problem many times. I still hope it was a problem with the transmission and it was fixed..

Thanks for all the help.

Ozzie
