Time to change pads?
I just had my X5 in for service and ran into some problems two weeks after I got it back. Both front CV boot broke open. After a fight with the dealer I decided to change them myself. Thanks to a great DIY thread on this site change them was not problem. When I was changing the CV boots today I noticed the inner brake pads look low. What do you think? Not the best pic (iphone). Should they be changed? Should I had been advised that I would need new pads soon?

Wait until the warning light comes on. Could be a while. That sensor has to get to the point where it touches the rotor and rubs through, triggering the light.

Ok I'll wait till the light comes on, But do you think BMW should have said something to me that the pads are getting low? I only ask because two weeks and a few hundred miles after I got it back from a service the CV boots bust open and during the service the boots were check and found to be fine.

No, the pads don't look thin.

I checked my cv boots before I set off on holiday . all looked good . 700 miles into the journey the right front cv boot developed a tear .

remember when the censor goes on you will have to replace it. or u can do what i did and shorten the sensor to make the brake light go off.

My 2005 4.4i went in for Transmission Oil gasket change, and they told me that the rear brakes need changing. Asked the service rep, how comes the brake light warning is not on? He game some bs response... So, no matter if it's front or rear, should I wait for the warning?

Maybe they just had a slow day and needed some work. |
I will take a pic just like the OP did and post after work.
