Wobble, Movement in Driver's Side Mirror...already searched.

I can move my drivers side mirror an inch forward and back imy 06 4.4i with no resistance at all to hold the mirror in place. I took the whole unit apart all the way to the motor. I can't seem to detect the problem? All the bolts are tight, every things seems to be okay inside including the teeth JUST GOT THE PLAY an inch back and forth....any thought would be appreciated.

mine will do that everyone in a while and I just reset it with the "retract/extend" button on the door control panel. It tightens up then. I also read about someone tightening some bolts/screws on the underside, but you maybe have done that already.

just to reiterate the post above - there are 3 torx screws under the cap on the bottom side of the mirror. those are notorious for loosening and will cause the symptom you listed.

I am having the same loose drivers mirror issue. I will check the three torx screws. Thanks for the input dinane39!!

In mine there are actually four screws. folding the mirrors in and out solved the problem. Thanks for everyone's help.

Mine had that problem when i bought it, it was replaced under warranty.

I wonder if tightening the bolts would have worked..

After nearly 7 years and 100K with my 2004 3.0, I ordered a new mirror housing for my driver's side. At 92K miles last year, I tried to tighten the hex bolts under the housing, but that didn't work. When I took the mirror apart, I found that the plastic assemblies that held the motor together were split. There is no replacement part. The assemblies are ~$500 each. I was to re-use the painted shell and the mirrored glass. I needed to order the correct inside 'guts' for my heated, electro-chromatic glass. Just to be sure all the connectors were there.

As it turned out, I did not ever replace the part. I sold the 3.0 before I replaced the mirror. I cannot *really* say if this would have solved my problem. The new owner (my neighbor) said she didn't car about that. It frightens me a little that she may not actually USE her mirrors, but that's only my problem for part of the day.

Anyway, I am adjusting the frequency of use with my 'new' 2004 E53 mirrors. I am also being extra careful when I polish the paint on them so as not to cause too much stress from the orbital polisher. Who knows? It took almost 6 years for them to fail on the old one. Maybe I can ride these out through the duration!

I am going to see if loose tox fasteners are the reason why my driver side mirror is a bit shaky.
