Two unlucky X5s...what else could go wrong!

So I went home this past weekend to switch cars with my mom, i gave her my 04 4.4i in exchange for her 02 4.6is. My car is going to get some work at the dealer this week (including hopefully coverage on rust from BMWNA, and random battery drain). So I spent ALL DAY yesterday de-"mom-zing" the 4.6is. Which included wash, clay, polish, wax, and ReJex, and of course crazy work on the interior. Packed up the 4.6is, drove out my driveway, and got the "ENGINE FAILSAFE" light, and stalled. UGH! Started back up, and it stalled again. great. So, now i'm "stuck" driving my mom and dad's 3-series convertible. Not exactly a bad deal, but damn i wish i was in the 4.6is :(

just though i'd share.

Here are some pictures of the 4.6is in the process. and the convertible. I feel bad having to drive this thing around cornell, there are so many potholes.

You are one lucky kid!

The 4.6 may just need to dry out a bit.

You've got waaaaay too much time on your hands. Besides, your family has two of them and you've been around this site for a while now, so be honest, are you really surprised?

I feel ya, buddy.

As I write, I'm sitting in the parking lot at work with a dead battery waiting on roadside. Just killing time surfing xoutpost on my iPhone :)

Hope your luck improves. If it's any consolation, chicks dig guys in convertibles.

so embarrassing. the 4.6is had a dislodged intake boot. No charge for "fixing it" but, if i should have poked my head around the hood before taking it to the stealer. I guess i was just in a rush to get back.

On the bright side, it was 80 degrees today, so i got to wash, and cruise around in a convertible. life could be worse :D

My dad is driving around in my X5, and i think hes really liking it. Hes been texting me all day about how well it drives.. uhoh. I may never get it back!

Rob, i hope you get that worked out. My car battery has been draining for no reason, i think it may be the final stage resistor. but i'm not completely sure, it really has to be at the dealer for this problem--very unfortunate for me and my wallet

Naz!! Sweet rides Bro!!! I love the 4 dot 6!! You know my style....she is a beast. The convertible is pretty nice....if we could break 65 around here it would be better!

I wish they were all mine :) and thanks for the compliments rich. And happy birthday too!

Would take any 3er with a manual over any X5. Would take any X5 over a 3er with a automatic. Still must be nice with such a buffet of cars to drive.

Hey, you applied way to much Rejex in your photo. ;)

The manual is awesome... Makes driving so much more exciting. I forgot how much I missed it.

And that wasn't rejex! Carnuaba wax in that picture.

Me and you should do detail day, love to see some of your skills, and I can show you my techniques.

That'd be a great idea. We could even open it up to the whole forum so there might just be another Parsippany meet this year. There would be a point to meeting up instead of just showing up to see cars.

Damn, I live to far... :(

lets set it up. The one issue i see is that because of "privacy" and of course internet security issues, i wouldnt want to have it at either of our homes. and Detailing in a parking lot isnt exactly easy. Maybe if we can get a couple members that we know and trust..?

if not, me and you can do it at my house, no problem at all.

MINIz guy 04-12-2011 07:22 PM

I understand what you mean. It isn't always great to have strangers go to your house even if you have a common interest in cars. If we are just introducing detailing, I'm sure a parking lot meet would be fine with some shade and a tent setup.

Naz24 04-12-2011 09:23 PM

not sure how the owners of the parking lot would feel about this.

either way, we can figure something out, i'm gonna PM you my cell number. we can discuss this further..

Things could be worse, my friend.

After last week's jump, I ran ok for a few days 'til this morning when it wouldn't crank.
Got it to the dealer after work only to find they're out of loaners.
Luckily, they still provide a rental car - check out my new ride
I got eye-boned by every Shaneequa I drove by on the way home.

HAHAH i'm literally LOLing

Funny story, BMW took my car in and said that the reason my car wasnt always starting is because of a non-oem battery. bullshit first of all. they wouldnt agree to do any other work without putting an OEM battery in first. i said fine, and sucked it up.

after they put it in, they said "oh hey, the car is fixed, you can come pick it up" my dad goes there today, waiting for the tech to pull it around, and guess what? The tech couldnt get the car started--dead as a door nail! hahaha, maybe now they realize theres an issue?

yeah with all the horror stories floating around on here, I feel lucky to have a SA who doesn't try to bullshit me. true, the dealer is more expensive than an indie, but mine knows me, my car, how I take care of it and makes sure their techs do too. to me, that and the convenience are peace of mind.

keep us up to date with what they find on yours.

hopefully mine is just the battery and I'll be out of the ghettocruiser and back in my X tomorrow

Good luck with that!

I have a great relationship with my SA too, he knows how I treat my X, so do the techs also. I have never been bullshitted by them, and he always give me what I deserve... But for some reason they BSd me on this one. I do have to give him credit though, after BMWNA rejected my rust claim, he has been working hard to get it fixed under warranty. He had another representative come out to look at my car today. keep your fingers crossed!

Meiac09 04-19-2011 08:11 PM

The text I got while I was in france was "your car misses you, it said so while peeling out of the driveway this morning."

Perfect timing for the E93. Nice one  Good luck dealing with BMWNA, and if this tech doesn't work out, try finding someone higher up at BMW...
