Brake pedal soft
Just did pads and rotors front/ rear DIY. After bedding in the pads I notice that the pedal is somewhat spongy. Also if firm pressure is applied the pedal will go all the way to the floor. I was aware that since I did not open the system that bleeding was unneeded. It seems like I need to bleed though. Has this happened to anyone and have a resolution? The fluid resevoir is at max and no leakage. Driven maybe 10 miles.

Follow-up: Drove 30 miles to work and it is getting better. Still would like a firmer pedal feel so I scheduled a service at the dealer. I have a power steering leak so i'll just add the flush to the list.

Another follow-up: 500 miles later, plus dealer fluid flush and pedal feel is good. Still not as stiff as the loaner 2011 328 but I am satisfied. The ceramic pads are not as crisp as OEM but the no dust factor is GREAT.

Ceramic pads will give you a softer pedal feel than metallic pads. Don't know why, they just do. I hate that but do confess I like the low dust.
Also, when you change pads, you should crack the bleeder and push the fluid out of the bleed screw when you are pushing the piston back in. I always bleed the brakes fully after a pad change. Get a motiv brake pressure bleeder and it is an easy one person job. Glad it worked out for you. |
