mrs 4.8is x5 lowered and new rims
The x5 is now lowered the 4.8 comes with air all round so I had a company (Lower my air ride Mercedes Audi Porsche Range Rover Q7) make me some shorted regulator links up, so with the help of swiss we measured up etc and got some made up.
Alloys wise i wasnt going to spend big money on this car so Sonny got me a deal from his alloys man i got 9.5*22 fronts and 10.5*22 rear. Hounslow tyres sorted the rears tyres out for me 315/30/22 contis and George had toyo tyres 295/30/22 in his garage as u do lol I also fitted cross drilled discs all round with new pads. This week i am fitting powerflex bushes up front :-) The mrs loves it :D http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...3/simba034.jpg http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...3/simba036.jpg http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...3/simba033.jpg its off to body shop to get all the black trims painted gloss black |
Your Mrs loves it and so do I, I have the white X on show us your X5 Page 97, looking at yours I'm sorry I didn't go lower. I'm also changing my brakes I had to go with a big brake kit from the US as I couldn't find anyone in Aus who could supply just the cross drilled rotors. I'm running 20 x 10 front & 20 x 11 rear X6M wheels, it handles like its on tracks yours must that much better sitting so low.

Thanks i'm just going to take a look at yours now:-) i cant go any lower as the air level stops working lol!

Looks great. If that x sits that low while driving, I'm almost positive it doesn't handle any better than a 3.0 x5 with 200,000 miles on the shocks and springs. Only reason I say this because the spring rate on the bags now will be so bouncy. On the visual note...it looks tough

I think only the 4.8is came to Aus with air suspension, so you are fortunate you can vary your height. I'm running run flats they came with the wheels don't like them one bit, rough, skatey, & having some balancing problems I can see why others haven't fitted them, I've remaped my 3.0d made a huge dfference but my next X5 will be a V8.

i have air on this all round so I can raise it if required, its def more bouncy but not enough to put you off driving it :-)
|
I would never drive it around that low. I wanted mine to sit like that and after calibrating the ride height to sit nice and low, I took it for a spin and realized I destroyed the handling of the truck.
If you want it to sit like that buy coilovers, because in your picture you are probably an inch from the bump stops, if that. |
Sure does look great though...

Another thumbs up for 22's, my 22" AC Schnitzers for my 4.6is should be in this week, I'll lower it this spring, although not that low..LOL!!
|
Correct me if my I'm wrong, but the front is lowered with lowering springs?

Looks Haaawt!! If you could get it any lower than mine...go for it!! I love it!!! Slammed baby! I know many of you dont dig the look....I have always lowered my rides as far back as my VW days in the early 90's.....:D

personally i love the look, but for me i also want to use the car, and i would imagine if you hit any speed bumps or dips the rear tyres would bite into the body work.
my X has 10.5?? x 20 wheels without the arch extensions and the tyres are ever so slightly protruding out of the arches, i would love to lower it but dont want to have any harder ride (sport) or body / tyre damage how do you get on |

hi i am running 10.5 * 22 rear with 315/30/22 rubber and the fronts are 9.5*22 with 295/30/22 rubber the offset is 20, the wheels sit just inside the plastic arch and they dont catch. The ride is more bouncy but nothing to put you off driving it :-) its a trade off between looks and ride, I can raise the front up 15mm and it would ride better so I may be tempted to do that :-) |
