Tranny just rebuilt

well i just picked my 04 x5 4.8is up from having the tranny rebuilt..a nice 3 hour ride away. well as i drove off i thought i heard a noise but since it was all highway didnt hear it again till i hit a toll booth like 80 miles away. well it still churps or hoots right before it goes into 3rd gear, i call and tell them and they put the tech who rebulit it on the phone and he says he never heard a thing.. awesome condidering i have my girl in the car last night and she heard it EVERYTIME and she knows jack about cars. I love the fact thay had it for 9 days and supposively they took it for 5 test runs. and they claim to not know what im talking about. i guess me and my girl have supersonic ears or something... I mean i have a warranty but come on u know how hard it is to drive 3 hours to drop it off finda a ride home and then get a ride back there. i cant believe my luck...i also asked to replace my front blinker light in which i was told would be done and guess what it was never done. I guess 4k just doesnt get what it used to these days.

That is really disappointing. There were no shops closer to CT to rebuild? Crossing fingers I wont have to worry about this for a LONG time..

there might be one closer. but the guy i talked to really seemed knowledgable about the zf transmission and supposively they have done tons...i mean they are more than willing to take a look at it but its not easy to get out there

i have a 03 4.6is and i got a reman tranny 30,000 miles ago from jasper and had it put in at rb transmissions in bristol. the beast still drives hard like new if you live near there check it out

what exactly did they rebuild? the ZF 6 spd is notorious for the mechatronic unit failing. these units are not rebuildable and can only be replaced. don't know of too many shops that are actually "qualified" to rebuild ZF's.

I had a "certified" ZF transmission repair shop rebuild mine. Took 2 weeks and $3700. Still perfect 7 months later.

Please tell us this was not ICS Performance in Stamford.

nope it wasnt in ct, and now the hooting noise has gone, the tech informed me that it might go away when the learning process is done so hopefully it doesnt come back...and who says the trans isnt rebuildable?

Any chance you could give us an idea of the cost?

sweetbabu1 04-14-2011 09:41 AM

In his original post he stated 4 grand doesn't go as far as it use to.
