Tint question

Did a search but didn't really see too much in regards to brands. The local tint shop I've setup my appointment with offers the standard tint and then Wincos. Which supposedly keeps the vehicle that much cooler. Wondering if anyone has the tint and if it warrants the extra 170. Debating on what percentages to go as well front and rear. Legal limit in the front here in KY is 35% but don't know if I'll go that dark. Suggestions?

4.8is. Yummy.
I'm with you. I do not like to go as dark as 35% in front.
I have the factory privacy package (40% tint on rears) and I'm getting my front two tinted tomorrow to 40% also, to match.
The tint people here say that tinting the front 2 as well will darken up the car as a whole and therefore not require the rears to go darker.
I have a light tan interior so my interior will still show through, but if you have a black interior, the 40% all around will be nice and tinted.

As for the tint which blocks heat more, I'd look at it IF I drive the X5 in summer.
I will not, so I went with normal tint film. BUT tint guys swear it does make a difference in the summers.

be aware that it has a really blue tint to it. looks kinda funky to me. i used F1 film and am very pleased. it has a nice gray hue and great heat deflection.

Thanks Clockwork, you raise a good point I never thought of, but just tinting the front may be all I need as my rear is already done as well. Didn't know it was 40% from the factory. And I do have black interior, I'll have to look at it when I get home to see how hot it is and how much light is coming in when sitting in the back.

Dianan thanks for the heads up, maybe I'll have to find another reputable installer in the area because the appeal of less heat in the car is high but not at the expense of bluish hue tint. Maybe they offer other brands but don't have it on the site.

Do 3M. I have 3M and it looks great. I have 35 on the front and 20s on the rear. I wish i did 20 all around.

Go for 20 all around! (Make sure that they put a lighter tint on the back because it will be in addition to the stock tint)

Naz24. Thats what my tinter was trying to get me to do. a 30% in the rears (over the factory tint) and a 20% in the front, to match it all out, and to be honest, with my tan interior it may NOT be that dark, but I'm more or less just going for a smoked tint. Not a full tint.

I find 20% too dark for my liking. And as small as a difference as it is, I have 25% all around on my 8 series and its great, BUT it also is my summer car, so I usually have the windows down while driving too, so I do not notice how dark it can be until cold nights.

hypnotiqdmg, when I was at the tinters, there was a black interior grand cherokee with 40% all around and i could barely see in the windows on the sunny day. So it was a great comparison.
I could see into my X, but again its cause I have no front windows tinted (yet, resolved tomrrow) and the interior is very light color.

Maybe just ask the fronts to be tinted first and see if you like that, like you may be thinking.

Damn so much to think about, Naz do you have black or tan interior? Is 20 too dark to see out of comfortably at night? How dark can you go in Jersey, they said it's 35 here but I'm sure they'll do it darker.

Yeah Cherokee I'll have to check it out on the front, that was my initial idea anyway, whatever the rear is put it up front then darker on the back. Not to side track but.... We need a picture of the 8, that's a v12 right?

You guys have given me so many more ideas though that I think it will end up being a spur of the moment when we're there type of decision. :dunno: Definitely need them to blend it though to compensate for the rear already being darker. I figure if they're as reputable as they seem it shouldn't be a problem.

I have black interior. My ex gf had the same White X5 as me, but tan interior and had 20s all around.

Seeing out at night is only annoying when backing out of a dark driveway or something. But otherwise it is perfectly fine and i dont notice any difference.

I am not supposed to have tinted front windows in Jersey at all... i've gotten two tickets, but only because i was speeding and they gave me a ticket for something else. i've never been pulled over specifically for my tints.

This is all personal preference really. You cant go wrong with either. With the 35% I could see inside my car during the day (especially with the pano roof cover open). I think the 20 would make it a little bit better. but thats just my opinion :dunno:

Obviously post pictures of what u do. But i would definitely go with 3M. very trusted brand
