Red Light on BC button
 

I have a red light on next to my BC button. Where do I find out what this means. I'm in the process of replacing my FSR as it seems likely that it's draining my battery somehow. I wonder if that shows up as a problem for the onboard computer when the FSR is removed. Car is a 2000 X5 4.4

Pic? Is it a the light that displays if your phone is connected?

If your car had bluetooth, I would say that your TCU is broken and draining your battery like it would do to mine....but I'm a 2005.

I don't have a phone, in fact I removed the fuse for the phone some time ago as part of the ongoing saga of battery drain.

The light just came on after I took out the FSR. I'll try and get a picture; it's part of a vertical array of rocker buttons that set the audio, time and date, BC etc. it's the BC one that has the red light, the bottom one.

My manual says check the Radio or Onboard Computer Manual, neither of which I have. I was hoping to find them on this site but haven't been able to yet

Okay here's the picture. As you can see from the display the car is off. The light stays on even when the car is in sleep mode.

Thanks for this. "Indicator Lamp for Independent Ventilation". The meaning is a little obscure but it sounds like it's got something to do with my removing the FSR. I wonder what the * means.

Is this the radio manual and is it available on-line?

This seems to be getting at the source of the light problem, I guess this system is somehow on or at least it thinks it is. I'll have to do some more digging to figure out how to turn it off.

Independent ventilation system*
You can use this system to ventilate the interior and lower its temperature, using the blower of the automatic climate control.
The independent ventilation system is operated via the multi-information display (MID) or the onboard monitor. Refer to the separate Owner's Manual.
You can set two different times for the system to start; it will remain active for 30 minutes. You can also turn it on and off directly. Since the system uses a
substantial amount of electrical current, you should refrain from activating it twice in succession without allowing the battery to be recharged in normal
operation between use. When a preselected activation time is set, the independent ventilation system is operational at outside temperatures
above 60 F (16 C), or by direct switch activation. It cannot be switched on when the vehicle is moving.
The air emerges via the air outlets for the upper body. Therefore, the air outlets must be open for the system to operate.

The * means that this feature is not available in all vehicles.
I believe your red light is showing you that you have a time programmed when the ventilation starts. Download the manual and remove that programmed start time.

Helmuth you were quite right, that's exactly what it was. Somehow I'd inadvertently programmed a couple of times for the independent auxiliary heating system to come on. Not easy to find out how to turn it off but the manuals were a great help. My car is old so doesn't have a screen and menus but I found the settings eventually.
