Is there a way to reset self level suspension inactive?
 

Today I tried changing out my tires to summer tires. I noticed when I brought the first tire down that the suspension didn't return to its original height. I figured I would turn the car on to see if it would return to the original height but got a message instead that the self level suspension is now inactive?

This happened to me once before when I had my car tires changed out at Discount Tire, luckily my mechanic was not far away and I was able to drive the car and have it reset.

Is there anyway that I can reset the car to original settings on my own, maybe a battery pull?

I don't want to take my car to my mechanic every time that I want to change out my tires or if I get a flat tire and have to change out for the spare.

Any suggestions would be appreciate?

P.S. I have one of the X5s 4.4 2003 with airbag suspension in the front.

That just happened to me yesterday !!!
But I wasn't changing tires, I was waiting in the Drive through and lifted the car up with no problems but when I drove away I got the ''self level susp, in.''
message on the dash.
I 'm gonna try to disconnect the battery for ca. 15 min and see if it will be reset it self.

Happy day's, I drove the car for 15 min. and the ''susp level. in'' messages is gone :dunno: :D

might be something with the sensors.

this happened to me recently, I panicked but after reading some old threads here i found it was just a busted fuse in the boot fuse box

The self leveling also looks at tire pressures if you have a tire pressure sensor. The tire pressure warning system itself is based on rotary speed of wheel as relates to road speed and not a physical sensor in tire. This means, slightly different daimeters, and hence circumference of tires normally indicate over or under inflated tires. When switching from winter to summer, my tire pressure warning always comes on and I recalibrate per the manual, and the warning goes away. This I put down to minor differences between the 255/55/18 winters and the 275/35/20 summers

As for resetting, battery disconnect will work. I had a lot of issues with random lights and after replacing battery, eventually had to replace alternator as low voltage would trip all manor of warnings.

Good luck on the air suspension inactive. My problems eventually lead to a new ECU :rolleyes:

Hamar so removing the terminals off the battery for 15 minutes did for you? I had to take mine to my mechanic to get it fixed, but I didn't try unplugging the battery.

that always happens to me when my car is slightly parked downhill....i would just turn off car.wait 10sec then it goes back to normal.....i check thread and for some nails or something puncturing tires..nothing..so far its back to normal....

I am having the same thing happening. If the vehicle is parked not on a level ground or a little hill the self leveling inactive would come on.
What should I do?
