If you look under the car on the passenger side (USA) remover the black plastic cover which covers the gearbox, and you will see a round plug on the side which is where the power cables go into the box. You can disconnect this plug which will show the pin connectors, check for water ingress.

So, for another update...truck still wont go into Sport Mode, only does M1 when stopped at a light, but still no manual shifting.

It's been cold but no rain for the past few days, but it rained lastnight. Roads are dry now, just got to work, and about 15 min into my trip, TFS came back on....jesus! Since the roads are dry, im trying to think of anything else that could be getting wet from above. This is getting really annoying...

I recon you need to get it hooked up to a scanner to see what codes are there, as it could a whole host of things...

I've needed a GT1 for a few years now to get rid of the TFS message on my 740iL since the 6spd conversion, so i finally broke down and had someone make me one...should came any day now :) I'll make sure to post up as to what the issue turned out to be.

Still haven't fixed my issue, but at least I've got the tools to do it now...just need to learn :)
