Rear Door Central Locking Busted

I noticed the rear door lock was beginning to act up. When I'd lock the car or open it that door lock would take an extra half second to do its thing. Finally it stopped altogether so now I've got to push the button down and shut the door to lock it, and use the interior handle to open it.

So off I go , stripping down the door card to take a look inside and see what I can see. Not sure what's wrong but I guess I'll work it out. I always hate removing door cards because it's so easy to damage the clips when removing them, and getting the card back on can be a nitemare.

From the sound of it you will need to replace the door latch. The central locking actuator is built in to it. Also, make sure the foam barrier is fully intact and properly stuck, especially the bottom half... If it isn't water can get on the rear floorboard, which is never fun!

I haven't gotten round to this yet but I'm just about to order the door lock actuator. Before I do .....

That door will not open or lock with the lock button on the centre console.
It doesn't lock when you hit 5mph and all the other three do.
I does not unlock with the remote fob.
BUT - it will lock with the remote fob.

I'm guessing a new actuator is the thing to do, but isn't it odd that the door locks with the key fob ?

And one more thing. The actuator isn't a part that needs to be coded to the car, is it ?

Yes, it does sound like the actuator is the culprit. And no, it is not a coded part... just plug and play.

My rear n/s door is a bit flaky, probably only a 1-in-10 chance of it unlocking, but always locks again no problem.

How much is an actuator ? It's low on my priorities but I guess I may as well pick one up next time I'm buying parts.

I'm seeing one for €133 online. My main reason for attending to it is because that door is used a lot because my young daughters child seat is at that side of the car. It's a pain in the ass having to hold her on one arm, open the front door, reach inside to open the back door.

I never shop on eBay or such sites for parts since the door mirrors I had stolen from my car showed up on eBay earlier this year. :angryfire

No. The sellers location on eBay was Lithuania. Obviously a nice immigrant was stealing them and sending them to their mates in Lithuania to sell them back to the mugs they stole them from in the first place. And what are you going to be able to do about it from Ireland ?

4 neighbours with X5's all had their mirrors stolen the same night, and they all appeared on eBay for sale at the same time. These things are €2,500 a pair from the dealer.

Isambard 08-01-2011 03:24 PM

Arseholes. Did you, or any of the others not report them to ebay?

There's always partsgateway-they cover loads of breakers. But if one insists on buying new, then obviously thats ones' choice.. ;)

Yes. I never got any reply from eBay .... not even an acknowledgement.

I tried many breakers in Ireland, none had the required mirrors. So the deal was €1,500 for 2 Brand X mirrors from the motor factors or €2,500 from the dealer. At those prices I was putting them through the insurance anyway .... yeah my premium goes up but not by €1,500. And whether your claim is for €1 or €1,000 it has the same effect on your premium so to hell with that, I'll have the genuine parts.
