Hayaku: Pads changed just once, Stlr stock, and done in combo w/new stlr/free rotors.
I looked at pads and they were even across surface. JV: A slight, very slight shimmy is detectable on morning rolls down the Mtn, regardless of brake; that lead me to wheel bal and control arms. The hard brake @ high speed situ occurs at "time of hard braking", which may have been minutes/hours since last high speed/hard brake app. It could be cold pad on rotor, though I would think hauling azz up the highway provides for some higher ambient heat/temp on entire front end after awhile, even when not having braked in a period of time. I did not mean to jack Diogenes's thread...jes' a familiar ring to the prob. and very hard to diagnose, let alone "fix". 2 Stlrs have "looked at it and test driven it" several times...most of those times the phenomenom occured for the tech. They were all clueless as to cause. I have learned to live with it, though it's the first vehicle in umptyseven yrs of driving that has exhibited this prob., over so much time and to such an acute degree. It is what it is. BR,md |
The sway end links were the culprit on my front end shake.

Thanks for that reminder...one of these days I will be shimmy free. :bustingup BR,md |

My current list of ThingsToDo is currently about 6 fooking feet long, :o , but we are getting things nailed down. Tip to anyone reading: A 2nd house has some advantages and benefits...besides the weather here, I am not sure what those FABs are, :bustingup BR,md [email protected]! |
With the wife's X5, it only happens at highway speeds(65+) when you apply the brakes, and will stop completely when the speed drops below 45. There's no pedal pulsing that would indicate a warped rotor. Temperature doesn't seem to matter either. It actually seems worse with light pedal pressure and pressing the pedal harder slows it down. The fact that replacing the control arms had a definite effect makes me think that I'm still dealing with worn suspension components.
Sway bar end links is prob'ly the least expensive thing to try next. UCrew - did you go OEM or aftermarket? |
when was your brake fluid last flushed? the guideline is at least once every 2 years.
Where is the pulsating feedback coming from? from the brake pedal or the steering wheel? or both? if brake pedal only, then the brake fluid question really applies... it could be ABS that was triggered to slow the car down from 60-45 and then when the car was under controlled braking, ABS/CBC released control back to the driver? just thinking out loud... |
May have just answered my own question. I'm guessing we're talking 'bout #7 in the diagram below:
