Damn X5

Sorry for the title. It is a good way to attract many opinions.
Ok, I was driving my wife's X5 and DSC inactive, Trans fail safe, and yellow brake light came on together. surely I did search some threads, and it looks like a bad alternator. Do you have any other suggestion?
Anyway, I have paid as much as dealer SA asked,
$700 for CV boot, $700 for suspension bushing, $500 for replacing PS hoses, $350 for battery etc.. this time I wish to check reasonable cost first.
How much do I need to pay to have a new alternator? 04 X5 4.4i
I will go to a local indy shop.

Model year and Engine would help, but bavauto.com has it for 510$ for pre-facelift 4.4

I had both my cv boot replaced with the axle for about $300 bucks I recall. I had it done at an indy shop. As for the alternator, any decent indy shop should be able to replace an alternator. But before you replace the alternator, check the battery first. It's a cheaper fix.

Bad Alternator

It is bad alternator. Had same issue, new battery and all lights coming on. Trans started shifting weird, DSC on, Brake light on, etc.

Alternator replaced and no issues any longer.
