Looks great in Silver on Silver.

I decided to stick with Silver too, to match with the grilles and mesh. No need to post pics tho, will look the same as the one I lost on the motorway ;)

Thought it looked pretty good in Silver on my last car too...

Seems to look best in silver on all colours.

I painted my upper bonnet grilles (the washer jet grilles) in silver to match the car. Looks much cleaner:

I feel alot better having bolted it to the bumper, but it was a ball ache getting the bumper on and off and I decided to repaint it in aluminium today (it was silver yesterday) and I had to do it on the car cutting a hole in an old sheet to mask off the vehicle!

Anyway, pic as promised :

Mate can you get some lower pics of the new paint job? I'm about to have mine sprayed the same silver as my car, but wouldn't mind seeing the aluminium colour. Cheers

Have a look at this pic - the grille surround is the same aluminium paint. You can see the shade is very similar but it's more like a satin effect and not a lacquered shiny finish. I like the contrast of it against the rest of the car.

I used it because the skid plates on other brands of cars aren't a lacquered silver but more like a metal effect paint. Merc ML for example looks alu, Volvo looks chrome, etc. TBH, its very hard to tell the difference it's very subtle.

Ah nice mate, cheers. Looks great, think I will do the same with mine. My grill is blacked out though, but still think it will look GTG. Nice headlights too by the way. I have DEPOs which I love, but I love the stock conversion like you have.

Yeah if you are painting it yourself you can get an easy flawless finish with alu but paint and primer is harder to do well. I like the depos too but as I had xenons already and this was free to do it made sense

Mounted mine now after having it painted in the cars color (Titan silver).
After one hour - without touching anything on the car and without driving I had what you see at the last picture. If you over-torque (ist that an understandable word?) these funny rubber things which should hold that plate you will have the same.

To be honest - I am not really sure if that cool skid plate will still be there after my 2000km vacation drive I have planned for next week.

Helmuth, mate, take my advice, get the bumper off and fix a bolt inside to hold it on.

Trust me, its not nice seeing your skid plate in your rear view mirror (as happened to me. On top of which it could also be dangerous.

I wish I'd taken mine off when it started to lift away. It was so much of pain getting the replacement (customs etc.), you can be sure the next one (fitting it tomorrow) will be properly bolted on.

Don't worry, the three holes you made wont be visible when the skid plate is removed till you have time to fit it with nuts and bolts.

All the best with the long drive. I did London>Milan>Krakow recently, was a real pleasure in the X.

Cheers, Kev.
