Turbocharged x5?
I found this link E53 X5 Turbo Kit 98-06, and would like to know what you people out there think. How realistic is this? and is it worth the hassle.

Would be awesome

any website that has "cheap" and "euro" in the title might be cause for suspicion. just make sure it has a warranty. the biggest hurdle you may encounter is the engine management tuning. try it and report back.

cant say that i've ever heard of a turbo X5. there is a member on bimmerforums in the e39 section that has a turbo on his 530. it's the same motor as the X5 and appears to be quite a beast.

its a rip off, look down the list of specs, "aluminium battery box relocation to free up engine bay space" um, dont X5,s have the battery in the boot
250 hp gains when PROFFESIONALLY installed, yep and the beauty may need exhaust manifold, probably the most significant piece of the whole kit i would say SAVE you money, unless of course you have vast experience or buy a 3.0D heheeheheh |
I think you best bet would be a super charger by a known tuner. I like Active Autowerkes but there is ESS and few others out there. Active has a stage 2 kit that will give you 405 HP for around 6 grand. You're not going to find much offering better than that. The trick is the tuning the turbo or supercharger once you are done. For more Force Induction ideas from guys that actually do it I would suggest BimmerBoost - BMW Forums, Performance, News, Tuning, Blog, Modification, Racing. IF you are seriously considering this then you will find help there.

What a joke...this is a VERY universal kit that can be made to work on anything. Just be prepared to do LOTS of custom work. Between needing headers (may need headers in the ad, are they stupid), battery relocation box, and all the custom work needed...this is far from a complete kit. Hardware isn't the problem w/ boosting just about any BMW, it's the tuning. You can't just throw on a turbo and expect the engine is going to have the slightest clue as to what to do, hence the issue I'm eventually going to have to deal w/ in regards to the twin turbo setup on my 740iL.

And then there is the transmission to consider.....
