Trans failsafe
Hi all... last night while I was driving I seen the abs and dsc light flicker then couple miles later the dreaded trans failsafe program message appears!!! I limped home bout 2 miles Check engine light came on and register 3 codes...P0660 powertrain serial communication link... P1747 powertrain CAN BUS monitoring... P0720 powertrain output speed sensor circuit... measured battery voltage with the car off 12.1 volts... while running I was getting 13.5-14 volts... was thinking or hoping for a bad battery or alternator but doesn't seem to be the case ... I haven't really researched any of the codes yet, was just throwing a bone out ...:stickpoke Vets
edit: I forgot to mention that I had no speedometer and I just did rear brakes about 100 miles ago |
and you bust the right rear speed sensor whilst removing the wheel a while back so you replaced that sensor but you may have got crud into the hub which could be affecting the impulse reading for the sensor .
|
Thanks for the reply...
the bottom half of the sensor came out whole so I doubt that there was any crud that got into the hub... Could I have possibly let air into the brake system resulting in all of these codes nd fail safe??? |
hoping a bmw tech can chime in because it sounds like an electrical issue to me .
the crud thing in the reluctor is a guess . |
nothing yet??? think I'll try an new battery... the tester @ Auto Zone said I need an new one anyways... wouldn't hurt to take a shot

Replaced Battery with Bosch Group 49 from Pep Boys $100 Also I had to cut a 2X4 to length in order for it to fit snugly

*UPDATE*
Took it to my main dealer last week.... they confirmed what I suspected, ABS control module... I sent the module out for a rebuild to a company called auto ecu (a couple of guys on here had good luck with them & they only wanted $200) in hopes of a rebuild... they called me back yesterday and said my unit had software failures and was beyond repair...:dunno:
|
I had the same problem. Got a new module for $600 from my indy
