Engine slows down then turns off? Service Engine Soon!

Today the Wife was driving in slow stop and go traffic and she said the engine just slowed down (RPM went down) and then the Service Engine Soon light came on. She turned the X off and then on and it started fine and the light went off. She has notice recently that the Engine sometime sound like to was slowing down to shut off.....I have not got a chance yet to look for codes.

Anyone every had this issue? Air leak maybe?

thx

An update.....looks like the battery was bad. Swapped it out and so far it has not done it again.

Not sure how this could be the battery but good for you if you've fixed the problem. I had similar symptoms and found it was the MAF, it had been left loose during a smog test and caused stalling. The engine started okay but it kept on stalling when I slowed down. It was an easy fix, just tightened the connections. I ope this might help.

Hey Jim, someone else mention the same thing to me and I wondering if its just by chance that the battery was tested bad. I think I will look into checking out the MAF. Do these things go bad often? (If its not found to be loose)

thx again for the feed back.

Jim, Can an K&N filter cause an MAF to go bad? the oil from the filter?

I will post a separate question...
