60,000 and radiator hose broke - exactly - German engineering?

Strange but true. When the odometer turned over to 60,000 the car dinged and said "Check Coolant Level". I thought it was some flush coolant message. I drove 2 miles home and top radiator hose had big hole in it.
German engineering? or buy lotto tickets.

I didn't see the temp go up to far so I pray I didn't do any damage ignoring warning for 2 miles.

Clearly both!!!

;)

mine broke at about 80k miles.

bigwave2255 05-31-2011 08:09 PM

um how is that the engineers fault?/ are you saying it is engineered to fail at 60k

or could it be the supplier manufactured it to the minimum specs!!

where was it made??

i know with replacement light bulbs you get what you pay for

TriX5 05-31-2011 08:25 PM

Not sure where you are coming from on that one but my Tundra has 97000 miles on it and the only thing that broke on it are the lights bulbs in the home link door opener transmitter.

I don't mind something failing every now and then but the falilure rate past a certain mileage is just incredible.... Nevertheless, on my 1983 3-series things fell apart at 50,000 miles so no real surprise. But a bit cynical for a "premium" brand to make cars that disintegrate at 90,000.....

warantee was up at 50K, so you made it 10K past the design failure point

petener999 05-31-2011 08:59 PM

Mine start leaking at 100K.

My upper radiator hose raptured, not the kind they predicted on mya21st LOL, but steam came out of my hood; good thing I was close to myhouse. Redid the entire coolant system cause I don;t want to take any chances. I think it's not so much the mileage but age (almot 8 years old at that time).
If you don't see the temp went up, I don't see how you'll have problem like crack engine block etc.

Funny to say i just got back from BMW and i have 39k miles on my 06 4.8is. My hose started leaking, so im debating if i should leave it as is and wait until end of the summer to fix it, or to just fix it now and get it over with. total price was 315$ to get it done.
