3.0 Diesel remaped Vs E53 V8s
Just wondering for interest sake how an E53 3.0d remaped/modified exhaust = 276Hp--615Nm would compare in acceleration to the line up of E53 V8s IE: 4.4,4.6,4.8. Some of you guys in Euro might have the answers.

Some "euro " guys will have the answers!Question is, will the V8 owners really want to know:rofl:

The X5 isn't a sports car so I don't drive it like one. I don't do enough miles for the difference in fuel consumption to be significant. However, I love the sound and refinement of a V8. So I bought the V8. If someone gets a hard-on that their chipped diesel is a slightly faster to sixty then I say jolly good for them. |

As it happens my 4.4 has been re-mapped and I love it-whatever power its chucking out at whatever the fuel consumption may be!;). Point and squirt, or rounding bends, it does exactly what I want it to do...very quickly  As for the question, I don't think there's any contest really... 276bhp/615Nm against 286bhp/440Nm (4.4 specs). The torque difference is immense, plus the fact that the diesel is lighter. Its a no-brainer. However, it will NEVER sound like a V8, and that my friend(s) is one of the major reasons I bought the 4.4. I would have bought the 4.6/4.8 but the price difference was too great at the time.. |

The reason I refered the question to you guys in Euro is because the US and Canada didn't get E53 diesels and I'm one of the unfortunate people who has never driven a V8 X5 of any description, by the response I think I'll just stay with talking about problems with X5s as they occur.

I think if power/acceleration etc is the main priority for you then, yes perhaps go with a diesel and remap the shit out of it! Or failing that get the 4.8 and supercharge that beast! I see you're in oz, I'm moving to Perth in the next 3 months, if you're anywhere near I'll show you what mine can do, and what it sounds like! ;) |
What exactly is your idea of a racer?
