X5 Door lock question.
 

I have an 06 X5 After killing my battery I was able to open the drivers door with the key but then realized that I could not open any other doors from the inside of the car. Obviously the unlock button wouldnt work since there is no power but the manual pull handles also didnt work. So the question is, say I am in the car with the doors locked and the battery dies or for some other reason all power is lost, am I stuck inside this thing? How is it that the door pulls do not unlock and open the door? In my Audi, if you pull the handle once, the door unlocks, pull it again and the door opens.
This seems like a potential very dangerous situation. Am I just missing something?

I believe the behavior is intended to prevent someone from breaking your window and then using the door handle to open the door. I'm not sure how it behaves without power as I've never run into that problem myself.

I'll pop the hood, attach batt-tender (batt charger) to charging posts in the engine bay; then you can try if you can open the other doors. I did this many times, when I disconnect the batt when disassembling fuel rail and need to open the trunk. GL.

It could only be a problem if you got in the car and locked the doors via the key fob (double locks the doors) or via the key in the drivers door and turned to lock (double locks the doors). If you lock via the central locking button is does not double lock the doors and a double pull on the handle will open the door. When double locked the interior handles are disabled and no amount of pulling will open them. If the power failed at that point then yes, it would be a safety problem and there would be no way to get out aside from breaking a window. I know the manual says never to key fob lock the car with someone inside the car. It's probably on a sticker somewhere as well.

We are locked out of our 2005 X5. There is battery power and both keys are in our possession however fobs have not worked in a long time. The driver's side door lock was broken a week before (it just turns freely, cylinder must have gone bad or missing). So we are in a very dire situation and I have been trying the procedure I got from Jeff. The question I have is that will it be possible to open the door from inside if I manage to pull the door handle on the passenger side? I don't know how the doors managed to lock themselves in the first place. We have been leaving the car unlocked due to the broken door lock. However two days ago, wife parked it in the driveway and said something about seeing an engine fail safe warning. Upon returning to the car, doors were locked so it must have been done by the ECU I guess. What is the best method to use the inside door handle and/or press the central lock button down? Thanks in advance.

Had the "killed battery" challenge on mine too. But no problem opening the doors. Drivers door with the key, all others with pulling the handle 2 times. If your drivers door lock is broken you might need to put power into the battery by searching this forum. I believe I did read exactly the same story this week here - with a solution.

might have missed something here but your X DOESN'T do that?considering theres only one unlock switch in the center (02 X5) once i pull the door handle from the inside,(assuming its locked) it unlocks the door.pull it again and the door opens
