90 degrees outside, -40 F according to X5?
X would not start this morning. After a jump I reset the clock to the correct time and then noticed the outside temperature reading on the dash was at -40 degrees F. As I drove the car the temp reading slowly rose to 72. I am suspecting the dead battery may be due to the FSR, but would that effect my outside thermometer?

When it went dead the sensor was seen as "shorted to B+" by the cluster as ground and B+ became the same voltage... and for whatever reason the temp reading starts over at the lowest point and slowly climbs back up. Oddly enough that is normal operation... Now just track down the source of the dead battery and you'll be all set.

I went ahead with the FSR. I was hearing the odd noises behind the dash. Everything seems to be ok so far. Thanks for the info!

Temp reads -40'F, 90'F outside
Yesterday on my commute I noticed my temp was reading -40'F and the outside temp was about 90'F. BUT, unlike Bill's mine has not reset, the next morning (thinking it may reset overnight), it is still showing -40'F.
Any ideas on how to fix? Thanks. |
The outside temp sensor, it either failed or the wiring to it got damaged. Worth looking at.

Thanks for the speedy reply. Not being a mechanic, but fairly savvy, where is the sensor located, and how would l identify it? THANKS!
