update on add 2nd SUV or sell 4.6is
 

Decided I will let my beloved 4.6is go. I really don't want or need 2 SUV's. Wife needs something with 6 seat capability and she will end up driving it most days during the week during the school year. And I need capability to carry music equipment like long keyboards during the week too. Technically they do fit in the backseat of the 740i, but it's a hassle loading and unloading and hard on my back too.

So I'm planning to sell both the X5 and 740i and pick up a used Tahoe for the wife plus to double as our weekend road-trip / family car and ski-trip rig too. It will likely see some decent miles - 12K / year is my guess.

Then I will look for either a sedan w/ fold down rear seats or a wagon for my back-up DD. Primary is the 07 vette which I drive maybe 66% of the time during the week.

So as a heads up, if anyone is looking for a really clean 4.6is with all the preventative maint and repairs taken care of - mine will be up for sale soon. Estoril Blue. 122K miles currently. Looks, runs, drives like new! It's a beast and I will miss it.

How did you like your 740i? How was it in terms of reliability compared to the X5?

My neighbor has a 2008 Tahoe with the 3rd row seat and a beautiful set of aftermarket (nothing flashy) wheels, that thing is bad ass IMO. I'm always under the hood of my '02, 4.6is, the only time I see him open his hood is to wash off the engine...LOL!!

both have been the model of reliability under my keep. Both were CPO cars and purchased around 90K miles and full dealer service histories back to day one. Both had already experienced most of the common failures. And the 740i was completely refurbished by a BMW dealer when I bought it off their lot.

I've had the 740i one year and it has been like a new car in terms of reliability. Never had a single issue with it.

The X5 had the radiator blow at 120K so I replaced entire cooling system. Now control arm bushings are shot so I am refreshing front suspension. But I consider that preventative or normal maint on a BMW.

drove a 2011 329xi wagon w/ sport and auto today. Nice car - I like how they drive and size is just about perfect. Power is a bit lacking, but was thinking that getting one with a manual may compensate for that in terms of fun to drive factor anyway. Would need to order one. Need to decide soon, order window for 2011 is closing soon.

I thought you needed something big and decided to get a Tahoe, 3 series wagon is kinda small.

Getting Tahoe for my SUV which the wife will drive during the week. So I need a wagon for my needs during the week as the back-up to the vette. Tahoe will replace X5 and smaller wagon will replace 740i.

Alternative would be to get the Tahoe and just keep the X5. But I do like having a sedan of some sort too. I am now wishing I never sold that S4 Avant I had....
