I have owned the car from new and it has never been remapped. The reason I haven't really noticed it before is that I have been mainly driving my 3 series. My wife has been using the X5. Last weekend I went to London to help my son move apartment and had a 300 mile round trip in it.
I did a lot or reading on this site yesterday. The difference is not massive like some have experienced, still pulled 'high' motorway speeds quite happily, but it just seems to lack that "bite" when I put my foot down so I just wondered if I could possibly have the wrong coding. The extra 30 bhp and torque could explain it. I will also check the hoses and air filter (which I'm guessing is the original?). Other than that I'll take it back to the dealer and ask them to check it has the correct programme installed but if it is possible to tell by accessing some "hidden" feature, that would be useful. Anyhow, thanks for you input as usual. |
Hi,Sorry, didnt realize you had the car from new!
Its quite possible that the car ECU wasnt correctly coded !Unfortunately ,this happens at the dealer more frequent than it should! See what the car is like when they re-code it!If its still the same, you can try to find a "mapper" who can extract just the engine file from your "old ecu" and load it in your existing ecu. |
Thanks! Good advice re the mapper. I'll try the dealer first though, since they coded it in the first place!

In case someone else has the same issue as Oscarguitar experienced.
I had the very same messages: "Fuel Injection System" and "Trans Fail Safe". This happened after I had a flat battery coming back from vacation. I left the charger of my Maglite connected.... Went to the dealer, told him about the "Fuel Injection System" message and he told me it would be an expensive one. To diagnose the issue it would take 1:30 hour (@ €120/hr) to read out the car with their computer. As I purchased the "BMW USB OBD Diagnostic cable INPA Ediabas DIS v57 SSS v32 Progman GT1" a while ago to get rid of an airbag light I installed the program again and used the INPA diagnosis program to clear the error codes. Messages disappeared and a few days later they're still gone. |
