Secondary Air Pump Repair/Rebuild

Just curious if anyone has ever attempted to open up the secondary air pump and repair it rather than buying a new one. It's just an air pump and it seems like a fairly simple design. I found a video on youtube of some guy opening up the air pump on his E36 but he all he did was reseal it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeV-djm8b_8

When I start my X up, it sounds like a supercharger or a turbine for a bit. It's been like this for about 8 or 9 months now, but it's staying on longer as time passes and getting more annoying. No check engine light and I have no codes stored whatsoever, so I'm not very concerned at the moment. I just would like to avoid spending 200-300 on a part that's basically useless other than extending the life of my 10 year old catalytic converters.

Anyone thoughts?

I know its been a couple of months but today i pulled this pump out just to see if i could open it up. It had set off the peake codes and the stealership also said it had to be replaced. As i looked at it, it reminded me of the 3/4 hp pump i have under my house that pumps water out of my well. Every spring i have to crawl under the house and spin the shaft because it rusts and seizes during the winter. Now the mechanic said this pump usually goes bad because the valve on the block sticks open and leaks moisture get to the pump.
So.... i popped the small end of the pump off, took out the spring and rubber collar that it sits in and lo and behold the end of the shaft is protuding from the housing about 1/4 inch. I put some pliers on it and try to turn and it wont budge. So get the pb blaster out and spray liberally in the hose openings on the top of the pump. Long story short frees up shaft, wire it up to see what happens and it works! We'll see how long it lasts.

My ses light for the air pump came back on and thought maybe the pump failed. I had ran the pump straight off the battery before installing and it worked perfect. I failed to check the fuse #61 50amp and just found that it was blown. Guess when the air pump seized it blew the fuse. Ill check it in the morning on a cold start to see if its working.
