ipod interface
I've seen the ice link but i found this on crutchfield USA SPEC's iPod interface - allows you to listen to all your favorite tunes through your car's speakers, it even lets you control song and playlist selections right from your radio. Has anyone tried or heard of it?

I've heard of it, but I've yet to see confirmation that it will work with the BMW radio, which uses the i-bus protocol. :dunno:

I have a 05 with premium sound and DSp + Navagation. I would love to plug in my iPod but so far I personaly have not found anything that guarentees it will work.

If all you want is to pipe the audio output from the iPod into the head unit then what you want is the BMW Aux Input Kit. Look at the main page http://www.xoutpost.com/ in the STEREO section, item 19 for the installation instruction for this. Once this unit has been installed you will have an additional item on your menu called "AUX" as you cycle through the "MODE" button (you currently have radio, tape and CD as options). While in AUX it will take the input and pipe through the head unit. You can press presets 1 through 6 to adjust the input gain to the head unit. Note that with this setup you will need to change tracks via the iPod itself. The only steering wheel control that is function using AUX is the volume. On the other hand, if you want complete integration into your system, including steering wheel control of the tracks and display of the song tags on your nav display, then check out Dension's Ice Link Plus system at http://www.dension.com/main.php?pageid=50&topid=42 |
i may pick up this unit from crutchfield after asking some questions ofcourse but if i do i'll let you know whats up with it. it won't be available for sale until april 8th.

Well then... AWESOME! I will have to call Denesion and get one on order...just a little scraed about doing the instal myself...no problem with the wiring but the plastic face plates and removing the head unit scare me!
THANKS ALL! |
I don't have DSP and ordered one where the install goes back to the CD changer (because I have bluetooth and BMW assist), and the install sounds very easy. Running the cable to a suitable location will be the hardest part...
Haven't received it yet since they are back ordered on the cable I need, but I'm anxiously awaiting it. :D You could always buy it and take it to a car audio shop and I'm sure they would be happy to install it for you. Shouldn't be more than $200 to install. |
