MAF or trans problem?

Did some searching but could not figure it out. I just purchased a '01 4.4l today and discovered a problem on the way home. When I mash the pedal to the floor, the car does not kick down or accelerate, it actually bogs down like it has run out of gas. However, at partial to 1/3 throttle , it accelerates smoothly through the gears. I then put it in automanual mode to see how it reacts. It does the same thing when I mash it to the floor. However, if I just give it 1/3 throttle, it will accelerate all the way to redline in any gear. The fact that it can run fine in any gear leads me to believe it may be more of a throttle or engine management issue. Any suggestions?

check the coils and spark plugs(for sure)

Check the MAF sensor. I had similar problem. Unplug the MAF sensor and if the car runs ok then you will need to get a new one or you can try to clean it with the crc maf cleaner. MAF is usually good for 50000 miles.

could be the fuel pump.

Yes, it could be a number of different things. Ignition, MAF sensors, O2 sensors, fuel delivery are but a few. If you have a code reader (like the Peake model) see if you have any stored codes first.

disconnected the MAF and all works well.
