sterring wheel wobble...
So...i get new pads and rotors last week...most of the wobble is gone...but i still have a slight wobble? make any sense...i'm chasing this demon!!!!
usually at above 70 km/h i feel it...just a slight jerking back and forth... in the city, when i hit bumps, or railroad tracks sometimes, the steering wheel will jerk down...i thought maybe some balljoint? tie rod?.... my shop has checked suspension and says its fine.... now could it be inner tie rod? i'm just guessing.... i've done the lower control arms, thrust arms...stabilizer links are about 1.5 years old....missing anything? |
Driving on the highway this morning...i can really feel it wobble at 110km/h...but if i go about 98, i don't feel it as much....jerking left to right on the steering wheel...very slight back and forth....
i hope someone has had the same issure and found the correct measures to fix it!!! i'm sooo annoyed by this, argh...other then that, engine runs like a champ!!! Argh... |
Welcome to my nightmare!!
If you search for "vibration still" you will see my thread were i have been replacing parts left and right and i still have the wobble same exact feeling as you say especially when going over bumps etc. and on the highway but IDK im exhausted from replacing parts. take a look at my thread maybe it would help you |
control arm bushings?
|
The big ones on the fronts? thrust arms were done..and checked still...did them about few months ago..

If it were only under braking from about 40 mph and up I'd suspect the ball joints of the lower control arms.
If it is while cruising at highway speeds and does not require brake input, I'd suspect tire balance. If it shimmies under braking just as a warped rotor would but wasn't fixed with the rotors, I'd suspect warped hubs. |
I'm in the same boat as you guys.....slight shaking from steering wheel, although mine is more pronounced at low speeds. I suspect one of two things: Bent wheel(s) or the wheel is not properly seated on the hubcentric part of the hub. I've seen this happen before on euro cars with hubcentric wheels. Corrosion will build up on the steel hub and cause the wheel to sit just slightly off the hub. You can still tighten the lug bolts but the wheel itself is not totally flat to the hub face. This will cause the wheel(s) to wobble slightly and actually feels like a bent wheel. My wheels (stock OE 18") are very tight on the hubcentric fitting so I'm suspecting that my problem is this. Gonna try sanding and cleaning the hub ring and inside wheel to see if it helps.

Try putting the spare tire on and give it a run down the highway, and see if there is any diffrance. No matter what you find.... Then switch and put the spare on the other side of the car and re-test. This will tell you if it is balancing, bent wheel or its just not seated properly. If it has anything to do with the wheels, something about the woble will change when you swap out a front wheel for the spare.
If you dont notice any change what so ever after trying the spare tire.... well now you know it isnt wheel/tire related. Thats what I would do. |
pads and rotors done last week..did have a warped rotor...
the suspension just feels sloppy up front, especially when i hit a bump...the steering wheel can jerk really hard at times... Well, i had put 2 of my winters on the fronts this afternoon...go for a drive...city and highway...same feeling....i'm gonna put the winters on the rears tomorrow and see.... |
It was the lower control arms (not thrust arms) on mine that gave the sloppy feel and shaking under braking...
