I think he means to retrofit them onto a vehicle that doesn't already have the autofold mirrors, not how do I make them move.

is there any way to set them up so when you turn off the car they fold in?

avonside 12-19-2005 03:02 PM

I asked the same question a while back, because I never use the feature because you have to remember to press the little button everytime you get out, never happens !!!!!.
But I dont think it can be programmed or its just that no-body knows.

Our dealer asked us did we want them to fold in when we stopped the car, apparently it can be done but only at a BMW dealership. Your car needs plugged into their computer and then they program the keys with the options you request.

are you sure that's not just for EURO vehicles?

CBlack1105 12-22-2005 10:03 AM

I asked about retrofitting of electric folding mirrors and was told it is not possible. This was for a Euro spec vehicle. Not really sure why this should be so difficult, but maybe the combination of the motors in the mirrors themselves, the control panel on the driver's door handle and the general linking-in to the vehicle's computer management system. Shame.

Also, my guess is that this wouldn't be cheap, even if it IS available.

I have a beef with our X5's power-folding mirrors. I find it ludricrous that on the driver's side it only folds in at a 45 deg. angle (it's a little more on the passenger's side). Yeah it's better than nothing but if you're gonna have it, then do it right and make them fold in all the way.

... on that basis, glad I saved my money.

I just called Crevier here in SoCal and was told that they can not be programmed here.
Wot a bummer, I am sure there is some pathetic legal reason why they wont do it here, the same as window closer issue, it cannot be done with the key remote.
