5HP24 / 5HP30 thoughts...
Requesting input on the 5HP24/5HP30 compatibility as it relates to the 4.6iS:
- Focusing on ZF 1055000040 Transmission (latest 5HP30 out of 01/95-02/02 E38 750i) - Electronics & valve body seem swappable between ZF 105800003434 (4.6iS) and above. If not, difference between GS flashes? Flashable? - Re-use 4.6iS bell housing/TC/Flywheel or use 03/96-01/97 E39 540i bell housing/TC/TC plate/flywheel. Upset balance of crank? What is the objective of the potential swap?
Seems like a lot of potential trouble, particularly with the electronics, to put an older transmission in. |
The objective is higher input torque threshold. Don't get me wrong, I'm (still) all for utilizing what's already installed. Haven't found much technical info on 5HP24 strengthening methods. (Although, I have found places that will sell you a "built" 5HP24.)
Currently, the most solid data I've found to meet the objective is steering me to the 5HP30. (This is not to say it can even be done for a reasonable $$/time/effort.) So, I'm seeking input.... edit: need to do more homework, specifically: GS8.60.2 flash vs. GS8.60.3 flash Physical/Electrical differences between harness/valve body/sensors edit2: hearing through the grapevine that Ron @ Performing Imports had beefed up a 5HP24 for his E38. Might be a good idea to draft/send an e-mail his way, and hope that information might be shared. |
