Whistle While Accelerating?

Hi everyone. So I have a Whistle While Accelerating? It only occurs for a few seconds each time I accelerate from a stop or a slow speed then stops. Its coming from the engine bay. I just changed the intake boot elbow thinking that was it but same sound after the R&R. I have a 2003 3.0i with 47K Miles. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Gregg

That must be your turbo spinning :)

If you're in Louisville UK, and it's not a 3.0i but a 3.0d then that would be my guess - mines does exactly the same. But if Louisville USA and a 3.0i petrol ? Hmmm, unlikely to be a turbo mate ;)

Louisville KY, USA No Turbo

i have the same issue but i dunno if its the elbo or the Valve. the name of the valve slips my mind right now but its the one above the elbo test that out and see if thats broken

I had that valve out while changing the elbow and it looked great. I have also read that if it fails it will be a constant hamster wheel spinning sound. I am assuming that either this brief whistle is normal or it's a vacuum leak somewhere else. Or could it simply be an air vortex sound thru the small tube portion of the intake elbow during low rpms? Does anyone else with a 3.0i hear a slight temporary whistle from the engine bay when accelerating from a stop? Thanks Greg

damn... and that me too! rofl if i accelerate the whistle is gone. i also have a ODB2 scanner and says its too lean. Pretty sure one of my tubes is leaking too. How did you search for your leak?

I have the same issue with my '01 3.0 108k miles. From my research, the two main issues that cause the whislte noise is the elbow intake tube or the DISA valve aka the intake adjustor. part #7

every 3.0 engine does that . even my brother's 530i
just live with it

I have been, it does get annoying so i figure i just drive fast so i cant hear it  but ill replace those tubes sooner or later. Still get lean on right bank or w.e =/

I have also experienced a whistle upon acceleration since I have owned my car. I took it to the dealership several times while on warranty and they told me it was normal. They even took me out in another X-5 and it did the same thing. My car now has 171,000 miles on it and running strong, and it still whistles. Have had DISA valve replaced at about 95,000 miles for another problem and it still whistles so don't think that is what will fix it. :dunno:

Hope this helps!

Good news... Even Chitty Chitty Bang Bang had a distinctive sound! Loved that car too! Thanks for all of your input! Gregg

Still a whistling and no issues...
