The X5 rolled 200,000 miles today

My 2001 X5 turned 200,000 miles today - and I didn't even get to be there to witness it :banghead:

The rear axle in my parent's Jeep Grand Cherokee went out yesterday as they were leaving my house in Michigan and heading for home in Ohio. So they took my car home this morning instead. And just before they got home it turned 200K. I guess I'll just have to now keep it to 300K so I get to experience that.

Jeff, Congrats on the 200k!

What, the In-laws didn't pop a pic for you?! ;) ... :D

Actually my 70 year old mom did take a pic with her iPhone. The pixels in my cluster are so bad that I am embarrassed to post the pic.

Congrats Jeff! I love hearing about how long E53s can live.

Sweet!!! You are a good man letting them use your X and missing the 200k milestone. Post pic anyway please. I may pull over and have a Scotch and revel in the 100k milestone when it comes; yes I will just sit on the shoulder for a while and enjoy. One car is 2k away and the X is about 5500 away.

wallyx5 08-06-2011 11:21 PM

Hey way to go. See 300 is now a little bit easier to get to. Congrats.

Here's the pic my mom took with her iPhone. One of these days I'm going to have to get the cluster fixed...

Nice. Is it a 4.4 or 3.0?

Is the "Lifetime" transmission fluid still hanging in there? ;)

:wow: You never had your cluster replaced through BMW's partial coverage on them? (BMW pays for the cluster, you pay 1 hour labor)

It's a safety issue... you can't read the warning messages.

did you ever change yours?i read posts about the tranny failing after the fluid change.mine seems to be fine except for this ding sound i hear.when i shift from P to R to D i hear it.i also hear it whenever im accelerating and left off the throttle so the car just coasts.think its something to worry about?

greggw2gs 08-19-2011 06:40 PM

Love this thread! I hope to keep my 03 3.0 that long!!! Congrats!!!

faz 08-19-2011 07:52 PM

Awesome thread.... congrats to you all.

On and off I have been thinking about replacing X with another (newer one perhaps) or some other car, worrying about long term reliability mostly... and I keep going back to wanting to keep this one longer. The newer ones are prettier and roomier for sure, but the price difference, I just can't justify, especially when this one keeps driving the way it does.

Threads like these give me hope. :)

I hit 100k the other day in my '03 4.4. The only major thing so far was the $3k i spent on valve cover gaskets, oil seperater, valley pan and gasket...not too shabby really. Love this car though. I need to upgrade the rest of the stereo though...

Slight thread hijack here, but you might want to do a search on the forum about the output shaft from the transfer box. That might be the sound you are hearing
