I know that any car that old is going to need repairs, but I want to know if any SUV along those lines are better than others.

No offense, but the Lincoln Navigator is not in the same league for many reasons.

Are you capable of doing any repairs your self? Not a transmission rebuild or anything major, but can you at least diagnose to determing what exactly is causing a particular issue? This is a big savings, as you can tell the technition exacly what the problem is and you'll be charged just for R&R, not diag time.

Sites like these are an excelent sources to help you at least figure out what the problem could be.

And BTW there is a few common issues the 4.4 has. Mine had a week torque converter, and ended up rebuilding the transmission. ($3500) BUT, it hasn't skiped a beat since then! It has driven beautifully and looking even better, for about 12 months, min.

bit on the random side but did you get those rims from discount tires direct?how do you like them?

Is this referring to me? If so, then no they're not from Discount Tire Direct (good company though). They are HRE 647R series, no longer made. Cost a pretty penny and the finish is very poor, I wouldn't recommend them.

I mean luxury SUV. Of course it's no where near especially in terms of performance.

I know someone who's good with cars and I know someone who owns a shop, but I always thought you should only go to BMW dealerships to get it done right.

This is somewhat of a random question, but why is there too different color taillights? Does it depend on if it's 3.0 & 4.4? If I got one with the orange (which I HATE!) could I buy the clear/white?

Yes easy to replace. The clear tail lights came with 2004+ models and sport package models from 2000-2003.

Thats for the feed back.guess ill upgrade the stereo first and worry about the rims some other time, or maybe not at all,for this car at least

bigwave2255 08-08-2011 01:47 AM

had mine nearly 18 months (2005 3.0d sport) 47,000 km in that time and its been great fantastic fuel economy for its size great performance and very little trouble

find a good independent and get it serviced every 10,000 km and you should be good

but dont forget you have to pay to play

so if you drive it hard its gonna cost you

actually that fairly well applies to anything you buy
