Question about X5
I am the owner of a 2002 X5IS with 32,000 miles.
My car has been parked for the last 18months because i have been out of the country. I car is parked in my garage, covered over with a BMW1.35 volt battery trickle charger connected to to the battery. Is there any damage being done to the engine, electrical or body by having it stored like this. what are the long term effects of this storage, should i have drained the oil or at least have it changed. Thanks fir the advise. Blue Baby |
Engine oil gets contaminated by byproducts of combustion over time. Usually a good idea to change the oil before letting it sit so there is less risk of engine damage due to sitting. Not the same issue with other fluids, just the engine oil.
Also, putting it on blocks can prevent flat-spotting of the tires. When you recommission it you should check over everything, seals can dry out, etc. |
You will need some fresh fuel and probably good to flush the brake fluid in addition to an oil and filter change.

Definitely agree with the fuel point, especially if stabilizer wasn't added prior to storage.
