BMWNAV
Has anyone bought the navigation maps from this company? Are they legit? It says for $50 they will provide new maps and software update. L
|
bought one thinking it was my dvd that was bad, turned out to be my dvd player, so i cant say if it worked or not. if i remember right, there is another thread on here somewhere where a guy got burned by him, but mine arrived, just never used it...

are you talking about bmwnav.net? i bought from them on my e60 - it's legit. but on my e53, my mk4 wont read copies of disks so be careful

They're legit- I ordered a set of Europe Disks (we're in Germany) and he sent the US ones by accident- He quickly sent the Europe ones to me and update disk worked great. I still have the US disks (2011) if you are interested.

Thanks for the answers...the copy does not work on my MKIV so they are sending originals. The system update they sendt did work.

my mk4 reads copy disc. you just have to burn it the right way and make sure your firmware is updated correctly. I followed instructions from this forum and am running the tele-atlas 2010 maps. got them online!
|
some MK4's take copied disks no problem. mine never did - the disks always got jammed. the issue is either the disks or the actual laser on the mk4. i suspect the latter, at least in my case

I guess the guy is legit, but he's also a buffoon. He first doubled my order and when I found this out on PayPal, I asked him to cancel one of them (since I obviously didn't need two). He told me he did so, then I waited and waited for shipment and it never came. I emailed him repeatedly without response, until he finally replied that it had shipped almost two weeks prior. So I wait another two weeks....and nothing. I began emailing him again and 4 or 5 attempts later, he replies that both of my orders were canceled. So why did he tell me it had shipped?
Like I said....buffoon. |

Just curious... any of you guys that were successful with these update discs from this site - did anyone update from very old/original firmware onna E53 MkIV (as in 2005 v24, or v26!) directly up to his v32.2?
Or would I be askin' for trouble if I attempted this, from this source/not OEM? - 'not really in the position to debug/deal with crashed NAV firmware that would need to be fully redone ! :pullhair: |

The update worked but the maps did not. I don't know if my DVD player will read copies of disc, I may need originals. This is probably the first update since the car was new, it's a 2006.

Well, my experience is that you can update OS anytime from any old version but the copied Map disks may or may not work. I have 2005-4.8is with MKIV. I updated my OS from v19 or so to v32 without any problem. I downloaded v32 using the links here at xoutpost. I was still using original 2004 map disk with this v32 with no issues. Then I got myself a copy from eBay for the 2011 maps and it never worked. I even tried 2011 copy from a friend but my MKIV didn't accept. Finally, i got myself the original 2011 map disks and everything is working like a charm.

I have just installed a MKIV DVD unit into my X5; it has SW4-1/00 firmware on it I would like to upgrade to V32.2 and get 3D, Night/Day mode speed cameras etc doe anyone have a woking link to download V32.2 please?

I bought nav discs from BMWnavdvd and although I ordered the non iDrive discs for my older e53, they sent me the iDrive discs anyway. Then they offered to only take one of the discs back instead of just an exchange. Unfortunately the 2 disc set is $54 versus the 1 disc for $40 - so their idea was that I just give them $40 for their mistake. In addition, it's not a product by BMW or TomTom as their site claims - they are just burning the discs and sending them out. They are not replicated DVDs but 'home burns'. So basically I got screwed and had to put in a mail fraud complaint with their local postmaster and file a police report. Did I mention they don't have a real address or contact and I had to dig for it?
So no, they are not legit. BTW Liget is a painter. Legit is what you should not quit. |
if we can continue with this thread, is there an alternative to the dealer for updated maps at a reasonable price? Sounds like bmwnav.net is not the way to go. If the owner is tracking this thread, maybe he can comment on the quality of the dvd's? I sent them an e mail today with a few questions but no answer so far.

It is SO-O-O-O frustrating trying to keep the old BMW electronics up to date. Over 2 yrs ago I finally pulled the trigger and had my local Alpine dealer yank the old nav Mk4 out and install an Alpine INA-W900BT (latest version is a INA-W928BT with an 8" screen vs my 7"). Best thing I ever did. Expensive! Old BMW plugs need to be replaced with new wiring. But now it is sweet to have modern electronics vs playing catch up (which you never do).

Can u post a pic of your head unit? Would like to see how it looks fitted to the dash.
