22" Wheels Staggered vs Non Staggered?
 

Hello all, I am going to make a wheel change going from 17" stock wheels and am considering staggered vs non staggered setup. I'd like to know what I should be considering when making this decision besides the obvious ability to rotate tires evenly with a non staggered. How might it affects ride quality/performance? 22" wheels staggered vs non staggered.

Staggered look unreal IMO. I have 10 x 20 and 11 x 20 on my X5 and love the rear wheels, they look unbelievable.

On a down side, yes there is no rotation.......

Very expensive rear tires in 22's for a staggered setup.....

:iagree:Also I think 22'' are under tyred they are harsher and offer no benefits over 20" handling also suffers when a wheel is under tyred as it decreases tyre distortion and as a result they become very skatey similar to runflats ( which I'm struggling with ) :(

For performance and some comfort get 20". For show only get 22's. I would stick with the 20's.
Also the tires are chipper for 20", you wont need to deal with spacers, and better handling with 20".
You can rotate staggered wheels. Just do it side to side instead of front to back. You can always do that as long as the tires are not directional.
Staggered looks very sporty and cool. Wider rears are usually done for more forward traction as a primary consideration which is why Porsche has such big wide rears.
That's why I would stick with 20" staggered.

Thanks for the comments. What if I went 20 x 10.5 with all 4 wheels as opposed to the staggered 20 x 9 in front and 20 x 10.5. How would that change things? Would there be any negative side effects to handling, wear or performance?

I can't see any real side effects to any of your points providing you fitted 295/40 tyres all round. But I wouldn't do it with a 10.5" you would run 315/35 tyres on the rear which would be too wide for the front, you would need to fit 275/40 on the front to maintain the same roll radius so you still can't rotate fr to re. The problem also is too wide a tyre on the front causes excessive tracking that is the wheel is directed away from your intended line because of certain road surfaces. I'm running 20x10(275/40) fr, 20x11(315/35) re, honestly for the small gain in tyre wear by rotating fr to re I couldn't care less some might, I prefer the staggered setup so did BMW. Cheers
