CPS impedance
Can somebody measure the impedance of a camshaft position sensor.
I have three of them and two show very high impedance. It's a mistery for me how two new OEM sensors went bad so fast. One is 2 years old and one 2 month old. The 10 years old one shows around 500 ohms and I think that's the good one. |
Can you you which one in Realoem?

Part 12 in the pic. I went to the local dealer yesterday and I checked the impedance. It looks like I have two defective ones. The measured impedance for a good sensor is around 4M. (pins 1-3) I went home and measure again all three sensors. The two years old one showed 10M and surprisingly the one that showed 500 ohms the other day yesterday it did not have any impedance. So, not sure if you can count on a multimeter to test your CPS but it it might be ok in cases when the impedance is way of 4M... at least a double check if your code reader reports a faulty CPS. I will buy one today and try and report back. |
If I remember correctly I put one on my Tracker 2000 and it showed more that a simple coil resistance. I believe there was at least one semiconductor junction in the test result.

Right, it actually has a small circuit board inside. Knowing the impedance doesn't mean much but it might help in some situations.
So I bought a new sensor from the dealer and both have the same impedance (4Mohm) but the problem (rough idle - P0343) didn't go away. So, I am not sure if any of my sensors were defective. |
If a sensor was faulty should it not show a code?
|
P0343 supposed to be for a faulty camshaft sensor but for some reason replacing the sensor didn't help.

Sensor (A) (bank 1)
Did you replace the correct sensor? Have you tried switching sensors from bank to bank, resetting the CEL and see if it throws a new code and the code follows the suspect sensor? |
I did switch them around. I had an extra used one and since the problem didn't go away trying all combinations I ended up buying the fourth one. Unfortunately the rough idle and p0343 is still there. No idea where the problem is. I get p1341 multiple misfire if I keep it running which I guess is normal with p0343.
