AngeliBright
I know there has been a ton of threads on this, and angel eyes in general, but I thought another wouldn't hurt anybody too much. But this one isn't very positive.
I just installed mine last week that I purchased from EAS and wow...they are disappointing. Sure, they look better than the dull yellow eyes on my '06 4.8is, so in that respect it's certainly a decent upgrade, but sooooo not worth the $300. I probably would have been better off with the $80 ebay knockoffs because you can't see these AT ALL during the day and are slightly noticeable at night, so why spend the money on AIB? Oh well. Granted, these photos are in my garage, but will at least give you an idea. With flash, passenger side AIB only. http://bit.ly/pKh58J Without flash, passenger side AIB only (quite deceiving) http://bit.ly/phmKfF Both AIB http://bit.ly/n17dEM The money shot...and so deceiving. I can only wish they ACTUALLY looked this way on the road. http://bit.ly/om8FQx |

I had those same AIBs on my old e53, and I agree with you, they are
better than stock, but still way too overpriced... |
Yeah, very disappointing. Oh well, ya live and learn....$300 at a time I guess. :(
|
On a side note, your 4.8is looks amazing in silver I'm very jealous.

your X looks great! love the stonehenge pic lol wanna do mine for me?

I remember when i was searching to see if AiB's were bright in the day light and couldn't commit to it since it was 300. Found another brand called Mtech v2.0 and got those for about 120. Same results probably as the Aib's but i am happy with them at night but during the day ehhh cant really tell that there there. =/ but this thread should help other potential buyers who need help deciding. But still 100% better that stock
|
Thanks Joe! Ha! That was a client's property, it was crazy. Exotic animals and phallic rock garden. lol
Yii - exactly, I've read some similar comments about AIBs but it seemed they were all slightly exaggerated and I hadn't seen any actual pictures during the day (although I'm sure somebody has posted one or two along the way). The $120 version is probably the better way to go because I'm sure they're the same. |
Just a question like that.
Why is it a big challenge to make an angel eyes bulb that has lots of lumens for the 2004-06 models? Nobody seems to be satisfied of either OEM or aftermarket bulbs. On my E46, I bought a kit from Umnitza, and I can use them as DRL because they are very bright leds, even during day. Is it a mechanical limitation like melting plastic with a too powerfull bulb, or not enough space for a different setup?? |
i might believe even the cheap Ebay ones produce the same light just might have more issues with longevity or errors being thrown but i think they go for like 20 bux... lol.
I am not quite sure why the Angel Eyes on the x5 is so difficult to get to be bright. Maybe its cause theres 1 bulb illuminating 2 rings. Or maybe the rings aren't made to reflect the light as well as the e46? Btw your not talking about CCFL rings on the e46 right? just bulb changes? |
Good question Turbo. I'm curious whether anybody has the real answer (although I'm sure somebody in the forum does).
I've even seen others who have swapped out the headlights themselves for those with much brighter AEs, but while you can do that with 2000-2003 (I believe), you cannot with the 2006. |

Instead of feeding 12V to each ring, each ring is splitted in half electrically, and they have a control box that take 12V, and feed two 9V voltage regulators that go to each half ring. So, it's like powering each ring with 18V, which make them quite bright. I was wondering if someone could apply the same technique to feed multiple high intensity LEDs in an OEM setup. |
I know who can... There's only one mad man on this forum with the technology... the skills... the will.... wheres MRBmwx!?

I used a chinese knockoff CCFL ring kit from ebay after I did my research and found out who everyone was using for a supplier for their CCFL's. $45 later I had Angel eyes and they have been awesome. They look just like the $200+ eyes from a particular vendor for some reason......... http://www.lextech.org/images/devillook.gif The transformers are a weak point, but they are also only $10 to replace down the road when they pop.

Looks good!

Mtec just came out with a v3.0 Angel Eyes for $199. Has anyone seen them?
|
I don't think it matters much how bright the light source is. The limitation appears to lie within the light guide technology used in the OEM rings.
|
^ that seems about right.... I dunno how they designed the Angel eyes but its not transferring 100% of the light forward so there's only so much of the light being caught and transferred forward to us =/ Not sure though i never really looked at the angel eye on the headlights. But if my V2's go out ill try to the v3's even though i bet there the same..

We offer a very very bright alternative that is a true 10W coming out in just a few weeks.
currently our ICE V5 is brighter the the AIB units, but the 10W ICE V10 will be brighter still at around $149. The V5 can be yours for only $97.50 shipped to forum members: Ours vs Factory: https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._8268847_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._6903769_n.jpg |
So I guess the price will drop on the V5 once the V10 comes out?
|
We plan for a Black "Week" sale staring on Monday that will include the V5, if you don't want to wait, then the price is 97.50.
|
Great. Thanks for the update. Make sure to update all of us XOutPosters when you start the sale. Maybe even make a discount code (even for 10% off) for XOutPosters!

What is the difference between the 1st and 2nd picture, V5 and V10?
Can you post pictures or a link to show the lamps. I'm interested to know if they are self contained or if they have a separate electronic control box. Thanks. |
1 Attachment(s)
only different angles.
the V10 will be brighter. They are completely self-contained, no external boxes or resistors. Here is the photo: |
Thank you.
|
Are the ICE V10 the ones on your website, named 'ICE VXX (N)' ?
The picture is the same as what you just posted. |

On the website it says 10W+ Total, which sounds like 10W for 2 bulbs. Can you confirm that they are 10W each. Thanks. |
each bulb runs at 10 each.
