Nav/Display HELP!!!!
The other day, I was detailing my X with the stereo on.... When I was done, I attempted to start the vehicle. Click! Click! Click! and the nav screen flashed. The X was already parked inside, it was late and I didn't want to deal with a battery situation at that time. So I said "goodnight" and went inside for the evening. The next day, I was able to start the X... A little weak at first, but then it fired right up.
Problem; When I turn the switch, the screen is illuminated very faintly (like a TV emits a faint glow for a few minutes if you observe it in a dark room once you remove power). All functions appear to work; radio, bluetooth, even the backup camera works perfectly when you put it in reverse!; otherwise the screen remains blank with an occasional momentary flash, like it's trying to pick up a signal. I have R/R'd the fuses and even disconnected the battery for 20 minutes to reset everything. STILL NOTHING! Now what do I do? |
is it still slow cranking? the computer will shut down certain luxury items when volts are low. also check in the display settings may just be a brightness setting. good luck

everything works fine except the display
No, the car starts fine. It is actually a fresh battery... Yes, the voltage dropped during the detail, but it's back up now. Backup camera looks as good as it ever did (only in reverse), but nothing else can be displayed. The monitor is not bad, it just isn't getting a signal from the radio or nav system. Its funny that the adjustment knobs work, but it's like being blind; you can't see what you are doing!:dunno:

My Nav went out on my 05 4.4 today also. I was heading home from work, turned the car on, and it started to flicker. The radio still works, but the screen is just a scrolling scrambled mess. So wondering if there's anything that can be done, or if it's dead?

Nav Screen
I don't think it's the screen itself, since the backup camera works just fine. I'm thinking that maybe the driver for the radio/nav/computer is kaput?

Still no display! Anyone else have this issue?

Have you actually put the battery on a tender overnight? if not, the reserve capacity is probably still very very diminished. Daily commuting may never fully restore the reserve capacity to the battery.
You'll probably also need to eject the nav disc, let the unit spin down, and then remove it from the car once the battery is fully charged. |
New nav computer fixed problem
The old unit would not power up after the low battery condition... I was already having a flickering screen before this event, so this was the icing on the cake. I took the unit to a local electronics guy and he could not repair it, so I bought a new one. Problem solved.

seems to a series of similar problems where MID's and nav's stop working and the only alternative seems to be replacement.i would really like to know why they stop working
